ROCKFORD GREY EVERETT

A good soldier and friend
Rocky and I met in AIT at Ft Polk la. He was my best friend there and we actually enjoyed advanced Infantry training. I also went to Vietnam, served as an infantryman with 2/47th infantry 9th inf div. When I think of the tragedy of the Vietnam war and all the great young men who never got to realize life, Rocky always comes to mind first even amoungt the boys in my squad and platoon who were killed. Rocky epitomized a love for life, and an innocence that makes it hard to believe that he would be one of the ones taken. Rest in peace my old friend, I know you still have that devilish smile on your face! Randy

with much love from your cousin
Rocky... Although I was never a thought until years after you passed I feel as though I have known you my whole life. My daddy, James 'Benny' Everett has kept your memory very much alive by always sharing his very fond memories of you. You have always been a hero to him and your sacrifice made you a hero to the world. I was stationed in Hawaii at Schofield for years before I knew that you were stationed there so many years before. I began to research and pass along your stories, as shared with me,to my son. He, Kobe, became very interested in learning more about you also. You, cousin, are an influence beyond measure in our family. Generation to generation your story is shared. The love and respect continues to grow for you while we all miss you dearly.

Rocky, It is another year gone by. Me 61, you 21. I still miss you and think about you every day. It doesn't seem possible that 44 years have gone by. Colt graduates this year. I am now old but I still treasure our friendship.

Although I did not personally know Rockford Everett but I served in the same unit about six months after he was KIA. He is truly missed by all that knew and loved him and especially the men of Alpha Troop 3rd Armored Reconnaissance Squadron 4th United States Calvary. He is one of our heroes. Rocky I am so sorry you were killed that day. I have thought of you many many times over the past 41 years. From January 20 through your date of death in 1968 we lost many great men/soldiers from A Troop 3/4th Cav, 25th Inf Div. If I make it to Heaven I look forward to seeing you again.

Every year on April 13th I call XM radio on the 60's and ask Flash to remember you by playing 'What a Wonderful World'. I wish you were in this world. You did your absolute best to protect this world and for that I give you thanks. Colt is 15 now and driving but his nickname is still Rocky. Have a good rest my friend and God Bless You and all the others who were lost.
