Rminder of the danger I would be facing
Barry & I went through flight training together, he was a little ahead of me & went to fly A-4s, while I was in the A-7 pipeline a new aircraft back then, so it took longer. During my work-ups, news of Barry's loss was received, & I attended his memorial service. I'll never forget the feeling that I might suffer the same fate. I think it made me a better pilot, thinking about what could happen.

You Are Remembered
Your dad and my mom are cousins. We used to come up to Prather to visit your family. I remember fun times on the 'farm' with my handsome older cousin. I often visit you at the California memorial in Sacramento. Both cousins, you and Richard, were lost to us so young. I am going to DC this March and will again make the pilgramage to the Wall to remember, and to let you know you are not forgotten.

Thank you for giving your life for the service of your country. You and so many others, our country's greatest treasure, were lost in this tragic war. It's been over 40 years, but you are not forgotten.

roommate
Barry Karger was my roommate aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard (CVA-31). This was the aircraft carrier from which he flew on that fateful day. When his remains were finally returned to the U.S. in about 1993, he was buried at a veterans cemetery north of Phoenix. I attended the memorial service and burial.
