RICHARD TILDON KARGER

I think of you often
I'll always remember what a kind and happy guy you were. We often ran into each other in the halls of Eagle Rock and although you were one of the 'popular' guys, you were friendly to everyone. The last time I saw you, my best friend Gail Armitstead and I were crossing PCH in Huntington Beach and you and a friend were stopped at the light. You yelled out to us, pulled over and we spent time talking, catching up and laughing about old times. A short time later you would be gone and what sadness it brought to hear of your passing. Thank you for your sacrifice you will never be forgotten.

I Remember Richard
I lived on Yosemite Drive in Eagle Rock as a kid. Richard live a few houses down the road. We sometimes played at Richards home. I remember him as a good person with lots of potential.

Cousin

I still think of you often, dear cousin. I photographed your headstone and that of your mother last June while I was in Los Angeles. They both have become a permanent part of my website. Carole did rubbings of your and Barry's names on the Wall while in D.C. last year. You will never be forgotten!

You Are Remembered
My sibilings and I talk of you often, remembering the sweet days of youth in high school. You were an awesome baseball player and had a smile that could light up any room. I visit you and Barry at the memorial in Sacramento often. This March I will be in DC and plan to return to the Wall for remembrance and to tell you how much you are missed. Rest in peace dear Richard, you left us too soon.

You Gave All
I was behind the counter at Nick's Diner in Eagle Rock when you and your sister would stop by for a Coke and order of fries after school. I always thought the best of you and your sister. You both seemed very happy and cheerful. I joined the Air Force and am a Vietnam Era Vet. Hat's off to you... You Gave All. We will never forget!

young hero
Although I never knew you, I would like to tell your friends and family that you are not forgotten! Every new name that I read on this site becomes a new loss, even 40 years later. Rest in peace, young hero.

Richard After all this time I still grieve for you. No matter how hard I try, I can only remember you smiling. I know you got angry, and I know you liked to argue a little about baseball, but I can only remember you smiling. The last time I saw you was at the Jack in the Box and it was right before you reported to the Army AND you were smiling and laughing and I thought, happy as a lark. You came out and we talked for a long while I was still in the Navy at the time, but was getting close to the end of my tour. You were a good boy and later a good man and the world dearly does need more Richard Kargers’ today.
