Although I did not personally know Michael Poggi I served in the same unit and fought and was wounded in that battle on 28 Mar 69 where he was KIA. He is truly missed by all that knew and loved him and especially the men of Alpha Troop 3rd Armored Reconnaissance Squadron 4th United States Calvary. He is one of our heroes. To learn more about him and the men and unit he served with please follow the posted link above. Aug 20, 2010
You were one of the brave that answered the call. You honored us by your service and sacrifice. We now honor You each time we stand and sing the words “THE LAND OF THE FREE AND THE HOME OF THE BRAVE” Rest In Peace and Honor. Mar 28, 2009

The soldiers do not speak. Nevertheless, they are heard in the still houses: who has not heard them? They have a silence that speaks for them at night and when the clock counts. They say: We are young. We have died. Remember us. They say: We have done what we could but until it is finished it is not done. They say: We have given our lives but until it is finished no one can know what our lives gave. They say: Our deaths are not ours: they are yours they will mean what you make them. They say: Weather our lives and our deaths are for peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say: it is you who must say this. They say: We leave you our deaths. Give them their meaning. We were young. they say. We have died. Remember us:

But we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother”. Mike McDole mcdole@ev1.net Served with Mike in Viet Nam 33 Brushwood Ct. The Woodlands, TX 77380 USA I served with Mike in Viet Nam during 1968 and 1969. Mike was my track commander, and the only reason I wasn't killed the same day he and Browny were is that I had been injured about 10 days earlier, and was recovering at Cu Chi the day they were hit. Mike was an excellent soldier and I am proud to have served with him and had the opportunity to enjoy his friendship. I will always remember Mike saying "when I get back to the world I am going to have myself a ball". Sadly, Mike never had that opportunity and I frequently think of that. I often reflect on how blessed I am to have been married to the same girl for 32 years, have two beautiful daughters and two wonderful grandchildren. It seems so unfair that most of us returned to our families while many of our brothers paid the ultimate price by giving their lives. I will never understand the injustice of it all, but I am grateful for every day of life that I am granted. I am also very grateful for the opportunity to have known Mike and served with him. My wife Delores and I will be riding our motorcycle from Texas to Washington D.C. for Memorial Day, 2000. We will be participating in Rolling Thunder and paying our respect to Mike and many other brothers at The Wall. Please feel free to e-mail me at mcdole@ev1.net. Sunday, April 30, 2000
Vincent Miata VMiata@aol.com Friend of sorts As a young boy, my parents had a small summer bungalow in Peekskill next door to the Poggis. I played with Michael's brother Peter as he was closer to my age. I remember Michael as a quiet boy from a good family, his Mom Jean and his Dad Pete (always with a cigar in his mouth). My dad sold the summer home (I don't recall when) and I had subsequently heard that Michael was killed in Vietnam. I was terrified about being drafted (as most people my age were). Michael gave his life for his country an act more important than most of us can cite in a lifetime of living. Friday, May 28, 1999
Jackie Taylor http://www.geocities.com/vietnamwa I had the opportunity to visit The Vietnam Memorial Wall. I was so overwhelmed with sorrow and pain that I could not hold back the tears for those heroes and their families who lost so much. Though my visit to the Wall was a few years ago, I feel that I left a piece heart there. To honor those who died in the Vietnam War and to say thank youŕI created a small tribute to those heroes. ROBIN T MADULEN@AOL.COM KNEW HIM IN HIGH SCHOOL NY USA A LIFE NEVER FORGOTTEN. MY HUSBAND FRANK KNEW MIKE. HE SAID HE WAS A "REALLY NICE GUY" HE WAS SHOCKED AND SADDENED AS WERE WE ALL, WHEN NEWS CAME TO OUR HIGH SCHOOL THAT MIKE HAD BEEN KILLED IN ACTION. I WENT TO THE " WALL" ON APRIL 5TH 2004 FOR THE FIRST TIME. IT WAS VERY SAD TO SEE MIKES NAME THERE AS IT WAS TO SEE ALL THE THOUSANDS OF NAMES OF AMERICA'S BRAVE MEN WHO LOST THEIR LIVES DEFENDING FREEDOM. ALTHOUGH I BELIEVE VIETNAM WAS ESSENTIALLY A WAR THAT WE SHOUDN'T HAVE BEEN IN, I DO HOWEVER KNOW THAT WE REALLY HAD NO CHOICE, WE ARE A NATION THAT "HELPS" ALL IN NEED. WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER MIKE AND TRUST THAT HE KNOWS THAT HE IS IN OUR HEARTS ALWAYS. GOD BLESS ALL THE BRAVE MEN WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES IN VIETNAM, AND GOD BLESS THEIR FAMILIES WHO ENDURED THE UNIMAGINABLE. Thursday, April 08, 2004
