Platoon Leader Jul '67 - Sep 17 '67

Specialist SHEGOG was the 1st Platoon's Radio Telephone Operator (RTO). This task required him to move fast and to go where ever the Platoon Leader would go. It also required him to carry extra equipment (THE RADIO), in addition to his other combat equipment. This job was a dangerous job in that the Antenna of the Radio made him a unique target for the enemy. This was a difficult job and he was EXCELLENT in doing it. Willie was killed in Bu Dop, 2 1/2 miles from the Combodian border, where the unit was supporting the defense of a Special Forces camp that was coming under attack from large enemy forces. During one of these attacks, a large 122mm rocket hit the Platoon's Command bunker killing WILLIE, James Snook, and Lt. Lawrence Duffy.
GOD BLESS WILLIE - KEN JENSEN

The young dead soldiers do not speak.
Nevertheless, they are heard in the still houses:
who has not heard them?
They have a silence that speaks for them at night
and when the clock counts.
They say: We were young. We have died.
Remember us.
They say: We have done what we could
but until it is finished it is not done.
They say: We have given our lives but until it is finished
no one can know what our lives gave.
They say: Our deaths are not ours: they are yours,
they will mean what you make them.
They say: Whether our lives and our deaths were for
peace and a new hope or for nothing we cannot say,
it is you who must say this.
We leave you our deaths. Give them their meaning.
We were young, they say. We have died; remember us.
