IN SILENT REMEMBRANCE, SALUTE TO THE VIETNAM VET

SSgt Frederick E. Owens, Sr.
1st Special Forces, 5th Group, Vietnam

LET THOSE RETURNED STAND STRAIGHT AND TALL,
AND REMEMBER THOSE WHO GAVE THEIR ALL.

FROM JUNGLES DEEP, RIVERS SO WIDE,
RICE PADDIES ACROSS THE COUNTRY SIDE.

REMEMBERING THOSE WHO FELL THAT DAY,
AND THOSE WE LEFT SO FAR AWAY.

SONS AND DAUGHTERS, HUSBANDS AND WIVES,
THEIR TEARS COVER OUR COUNTRYSIDE.

FLAGS AT HALF STAFF ON MISTY MORN,
A NATION SALUTES OUR HEROES UNSCORNED.

GRASS SO GREEN, NEAT AND TRIM,
STONES OF WHITE WILL N'ER DIM.

HONOR GUARD OF SIX NOW PASS OUR WAY,
THE FLAG DRAPED CASKET WE'LL LAY REST TODAY.

AS WE STAND IN SILENT PRAYER,
RIFLES RING OUT ITS FINAL BLARE.

IN THE DISTANCE WE CAN HEAR,
THE FINAL SOUNDS OF BUGLES TEAR.

PEACEFUL SOUND OF BIRDS A'NEAR,
AS WE WEEP WITH BURNING TEAR.

LET'S NOW FORGET THE DRUMS OF WAR,
WHO'S FADED SOUNDS WE'LL EVER MOURN.

THEY SERVED IN HELL, THEY'VE EARNED THEIR REST,
IN HEAVEN'S ARMS THEY'VE PASSED GOD'S TEST.

TWO WALL'S OF STONE, NAMES FOREVER ENGRAVED,
A DIAMOND FOR THOSE WHO'VE PASSED AWAY,
A CROSS FOR THOSE WHO'S FATE UNKNOWN,
A CIRCLE FOR THEM WHO MAY STILL COME HOME.
