Don  McKinley martidon1970@gmail.com Joe, I missed the anniversary of your KIA (March 24) date, but I was fighting for my life from wounds I received the day The Glassman saved my life. I was angry enough that I was dying from the same wounds I received in ’68 that I refused to die.
This is our day and I always remember. We are all proud or what you started with that letter you wrote to Linda, and she carries on today. Nyal and I will remember you today and tell our stories of you. You are always missed my brother.

Don  McKinley martidon1970@gmail.com We Served Together
Today I rose early to visit The Wall and spend time thinking of you as I remember your story.
In the beginning of a change, the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot. -Mark Twain. It is my honor to know you and to know your, as well as your, families sacrifices…It has been my privilage over the past fourty plus years to tell your story when ever I had an audience.
It was an honor to serve with you.
Breathe, trumpets, breathe
Slow notes of saddest wailing -
Sadly responsive peal, ye muffled drums
Comrades, with downcast eyes
And banners trailing
Attend him home, -
The youthful warrior comes….
With proud fond tears,
By tinge of shame untainted,
Bear him, and lay him
Gently in his grave:
Above the hero write, —
The young, half sainted, —
His country asked his life,
His life he gave!
By George Lunt
Honor and Country,
Don “Big Mac” McKinley

William Taylor A Fellow Veteran I did not, have time, to build a family, I knew love. Such a wonderful feeling. I did not, fulfill, all my dreams. I knew brotherhood, with my comrades, in arms, Unforgettable. I lived, rare and hard times, Indescribable. Now laying, at eternal peace, I still visualize, ponder, smile and hum, my favorite tunes, but no one living, can see, or hear me. We are now, alone and we share in death, what united us, in life: Love for Freedom. Facing the stars, shining in the sky, as I have so often, done, before I will offer, another prayer, for world Peace. Mar 24, 2009 |
