Myron Berg's face and name, seem so familiar. I believe, he and I talked, about a Volkswagen, car, that he had, put a Porche, engine, into and it beat all challengers, because they thought, it was simply, a VW., bug! I was searching for infomation, on a guy, we called Smitty. He was shot, accidentally and died, on the wooden, sidewalk, behind his hootch, in 1969, or 1970. Anyway, I was in Company A, 123rd, Aviation Bn., 16th, Group, (Combat) Americal Division. And I think, I knew Berg. I lost, my photo collection. I had more, than 200, pictures. If I still had them, I could verify the names, of the guys, I knew and served with.

I had the opportunity to visit, The Vietnam Memorial Wall, in Washington DC.. As I searched and found, the names of my friends, classmates, neighbors, etched, into the smooth, black face, of the Wall, an extraordinary, outpouring of emotion, became so strong. I was so overwhelmed, with sorrow and pain, that I could not, hold back the tears, for those heroes and their families, who lost so much. Though, my visit to the Wall, was a few years ago, I feel that I left a piece, of my heart there. To honor, those who died, in the Vietnam War and to say thank you, I created a small tribute, to those heroes. Please click, on the link above, to view, memorial website.

Gone, but not forgotten
How often, I've tho't of you, over the years. The Vietnam "Wall," came through Memphis, last year and I drove out, to find, your name and was greatly disappointed, to find they had removed, it the day, before. We were like brothers, in many ways and if you had lived, I believe, we would have, always been close. How I wish, you knew my children, my wife, but greater, that you could have known, the joy, of your own. I recall often, the night we crawled out, the bedroom window, with Kevin, Terry, Robert and myself, pushed, the car out, of the drive and down the street, before we cranked it, so as not, to be heard. We drove out, in the country and went swimming, in the canal. You decided, we needed light and backed, the car and aimed the headlights, at the canal, drove in, to close and got, the car stuck. We had, to walk out and you, called one of the deacons, at Dad's church, in the middle, of the night, to get us, a tow truck. Needless, to say, his first phone call, was, to my dad. What a night. Just one, of many, of our "escapades." Again, I think of you, so often, you had a hard way, to go as a teenager, seems, you never got, a break. But I remember you, as a hard, worker and always, a good attitude. How, I wish things, had been different. Well, if it means, anything, you, made a mark, with me. You are, sorely missed.
