The Ace of Spades Gun Truck - 1971 . . Contributed By Jose Santiago On Friday, May 25, 2001 6 members of the gun truck, The Ace of Spades" killed Feb-March 1971 on higway #9 (OPeration Pegasus), near mortar alley. We worked together all the time, but did not really know each other. I worked on an M88 as "mine sweep" and they worked the end of the convoys as fire support. That evening, they took an RPG, and most of the tankers took some too. They were lost to me, and I did not even know thier names! Only six of twenty-eight survived that day. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about thier amazing firepower abilities or the fact that we only exchanged call signs and daily codes. I never got to know them, but I have tremendous respect for them. Anyone know what thier names are?
Looking for member of 1st Plt, 3/4/3 from 1967 . . Contributed By Kate Conway Hickman On Friday, May 25, 2001 PFC John James Conway USMC KIA March 17, 1967 Quang Tri "He was an 18 year-old boy forged suddenly into manhood - like so many of his generation - in the steaming cauldron of a bloody war 7,000 miles from home. In one of his last letters his family received, he wrote: "Among the masses I walk alone My mind floats free as the wind- The shadow of death knocks at my door The battle will be my end. ." (written March 16, 1967) His words are left behind to serve as an epitaph for him and for the other men of all the Armed Forces who have given their lives in places few Americans had heard of a few years ago. (as of March 1967) War Zone D, Ap Nha Met, DaNang, Quan Nhi, Quang Tri, Huong Hoa. . The names are strange but this Memorial Day a Nation will remember them. They are places where brave men died. Young men whose lives were still to be lived. Young men whose futures were erased in split seconds by the whine of a bullet, the blast of a land mine, the explosion of an enemy bunker. My brother is among all the men who found death thousands of miles from home. My brother's spirit also lives on in the men who returned home. They are all the heroes a Nation honors and families remember with grieving hearts." God Bless, to all the men of 1st Plt, 3/4/3 1967 Vietnam, Semper Fi, Kate Conway Hickman (508)758-1337

12 Hours at moving wall yesterday. . . Contributed By Chaplain Howard Flexer On Saturday, May 26, 2001 Yesterday I spent 12 hours walking up & down helping the students who were visiting our Wall. As I helped one kid to rub a name I asked him who was he to him? He said his grandfather. I had to think about his answer for a moment. My first thought was boy am I old as to me he was 19 0r 20 like most were. How could he be his Grandfather? I never asked anyone else Ha! The rain held off and As I met many fellow MARINES we talked as if we live next door to each other all our lives. We are the greatest! My greatest feeling came from helping mothers & others find their loved one name and rubbing their name for them. Today I will be in local parade and I was asked to do the prayer at the cemetery. Then it will be back to Wall to help more and do my Solitary Rose Ceremony at 1600. Semper Fi To all. God Bless all of You With God Chaplain Howard Flexer

Moving Wall Memorial . . Contributed By L.M. Gilliam On Saturday, May 26, 2001 This weekend my family and I went and saw the moving wall memorial. I was very moved by it. I know several men who lost thier lives in the war. It is quite sad yet beautiful way to Honor Our War Hero's. As I gazed upon the names of the men that lost thier lives, I felt tears coming to my eyes and and lump in my throat. It truely is impressive and a wonderful way to honor those men who gave their lives serving thier country. My brother served as a Corpsmen 2 tours. My husband servered during the war also.

what this means to me . . Contributed By Alicia Vaillancourt On Saturday, May 26, 2001 in history class we were learning about the vietnam war, and at first i didnt think much of it all, until my teacher showed us a video and talked to us about everything that went on, he then gave us a project to do , look up the name of one person that had died there, and find out about them , and he gave us this website. i got onto it not knowing what to expect and looked up the name of my person jimmie williams, and i was shocked, he was only 2 years older than me, and i just couldnt believe that the info there was all anyone who didnt know this man would ever know about him. i started lookin up other names, and saw people who died on my b'day. and how they died, and it brought tears to my eyes. this was one of the most moving projects of my school life, and i will never forget it, my teacher gave us someone to see if we should ever visit .and i will look up my name, and visit the memorial.thank you to all those who fought and gave their lives in vietnam.
