I served in the USMC in Vietnam-1ST Marine Div- Cag and Cap units 2. I was a Platoon Sgt on both tours in the Ashau Vally. My name is James B. Herring but mostly was called Bareback Snake. We of the Cag and Cap units lived in hot hell and I feel as thou I lost my soul there. I am 100% disabled 80% due to PTSD if there is anyone out there who remembers I would love to talk to you-Rvngunner@aol.com

James , while I was in Vietnam walking drag mostly in a platoon I never knew what CAP meant. The last few years I have been reading a little about CAP Marine units. I don't know if the average American knows what was sacrificed but if they did they would get on their knees and kiss your feet.

Wanting to inform the Motor Pool that SGT Carl (Tommy) Doran died October of 2003 at the age of 56. He didn't suffer and it was quick. He Retired in 1988 as a TSGT. Died in Salem, NJ had a full honors funeral with a UH-47 (Huey) fly over as the bugler played taps. It was moving.

Dale K Porterfield

This was the Day Dale died in Vietnam. He was the doorgunner on a Huey supporting trops in Quang Tri during the Easter offensive. His Huey was hit by a surface to air missile which were now being used below the DMZ. Dale was on the missing list for a few months but efforts finally retrived him a few months later. He was very young and I think he wanted to make the service his career. He had a wife and child to take care of and I think that's what motivated him.Dale has crossed my mind many times over the years. Usually when my thinking gets out of line I remeber Dale's words. He had a very clear way of looking at things.

Christopher George Washington from Orange Mile, Tenn., was one of the best friends in the USMC. I lost track of him after Camp Lejeune, N.C. Had heard he was a casualty in Viet Nam and haven't been able to locate him. Do you know him? Is he alive (hopefully).

My father died in Nam before I ever got to know him, He was shot 2 days after I was born his name is Lon Dougherty Jr he was an E-4 in the 4th ID I am looking for anyone who can tell me more about him anyting at all I know from reading something somewhere that someone was with him when he passed, If that person is still around I would love to haer from you or anyone who was in his unit The only thing is, Is that I do not know the Unit that he was in.
