Vietnam on 10/8/1963

someone please help me I'm looking for anyone who served at this time and was in the same unit as my cousin I never knew him as I am only 35 years old and from family I heard he was a true Marine. He was killed in action. this is what I have on him. cousin Sgt. Larry Duane Jameson-KIA in Vietnam on 10/8/1963. On 10/8/1963, a USAF pilot had been shot down (Captain Dean Wadsworth) about 40 miles south of Danang, South Vietnam. Two Marine helicopters of the 1st Marine Air Wing (HMM-361) were immediately dispatached from the Danang airfield to effect a search-and-rescue mission. Due to the urgency, we have never been able to sort out who was with each helicopter - but we know that there were a total of 9 Marines and 3 Navy Corpsmen onboard. They had arrived at the position of the downed pilot, and one of the helicopters started taking ground fire as it started to descend. These hits caused it to go into a tail spin, and it rotated into the second helicopter - causing both to crash/burn, killing all 12 men. The carnage was so bad that two of the remains (1 Marine, 1 Corpsman) were never found/identified, and subsequent searches for the pilot were unfruitfull - he also is listed as one of our MIA's. This incident became the largest number of US servicemen killed in the war up to that date on a single day. What's interesting is that Larry Jameson was trained as a Avionics Technican - and as the war escalated, he would never have been onboard for this type of mission - but he, along with 3 other technicians had gone along on that fateful day.a true Marine. Another young 18 year old who paid the supreme sacrifice for Our Country. He did not show his age, he seemed younger, and here he was figthing next to us. So Young, yet so Brave. I am glad I shared some liberty with him in Hawaii. He was out of boot camp. NCO's were not suppose to associate with lower enlisted MARINES, but what the hell, WE WERE BROTHERS off to WAR. Its been 37 years ago, today. SEMPER FI, BRO. You my friend are not forgotten.

Iam searching for anyone who served with my brother in Vietnam. He would of gone by Stan. Around about 68 or 69 . I am his sister and he is deceased now and have often wondered where he served at in Vietnam.

Bryan Rollman Served in Mekong Delta 1968-69

I was wondering if any of you know where Bryan Rollman is now? I wrote to him while he was in Vietnam during 68-69 while he was in the Mekong Delta. Last heard he was living in Washington State. He came home and took me to my prom. I still have the picture. Also, thanks to this site old classmates who knew John Hansen have emailed me several letters including his sister. He was a helicopter pilot and was shot down and killed July 15, 1969. I wanted to thank everyone who have written to me about him including old classmates, etc. He was a good man. The only thing I don't understand with our current conflict in Iraq is--when are the wars ever going to end? Is it possible they will end when the politician's are on the front lines?

Searching for Blake McIlwaine - a distant relative. Blake was an airforce pilot. His wife was Sandra or Sandy. Blake last visited relatives in N.Ireland about 10 years ago. Any info on Blake or his family would be greatly appreciated. His cousin Leslie in Londonderry would like to contact him again. Blake was from Alabama

U.S.M.C. Sgt.Ski killed last night in country on listening partrol off of Hill 55 lost all com 2531 got bronze star ,attempting to locate men that were also on that partol.

Claude R Gibbons

This is the first time I have had the courage to find Claude's name on the wall. When I read his obituary in the paper all those years ago, I couldn't move. I couldn't breathe. The Claude I knew from Sister Mary Phillips first grade class at Sacred Heart had always been my hero. He was always protecting me. After my dad died that year, Claude was always there to hold me up. We moved and I didn't see him again until by chance I ran into him at Jones Park at the swimming pool. I ran up to him and asked him did he remember me and he never forgot me. He was so amazed that I remembered him. My protector never forgot me. I remember that summer and the next that all he talked about was going into the Army and earning a Congressional Medal of Honor for his dad, who had also passed away a few years after mine. I don't know what I can really say to express the type of character he had. He was the best of the best. The hole he has left in this world is unfathomable. If I remember correctly, he once told me that his dad named him Claude for a French Resistance Fighter he knew during WWII. His father I think was a Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. At least that is what I thought because he was so gung ho to earn that medal to be like his dad. I remember he took a lot of flak for his speech defect. He had this terrible curse of a speech defect. It was hard for him to get folks to take him seriously because of it. Every day he got up and went out into the world with that speech problem and every day he walked out without fear to face all that abuse. All he ever wanted to do was the right thing. All he ever wanted to be was the man he thought his father wanted him to be. O! I remember you, Claude! Those of us who really knew you will never forget you. Since then his brother and mother have both passed on. There are to my knowledge no survivors in this family. We all love you Claude. Stay our hero and clear the road of the devil to save us on our way to heaven with you. I know you're still fighting the good fight. Love ya, Jennifer
