HONORING THE NAVY CORPSMAN
Well the name DOC is something to behold. Not everyone can be a DOC It takes a man with special courage and conviction to be a NAVY CORPSMAN (DOC). These men go into battle with not weapons but with medical kits. and then when the battle is at it's fiercest than the call come DOC up. and while bullets and bombs going off the CORPSMAN goes out to aid his fallen charges. These MEN are real HERO'S and we should remember there deeds daily. SEMPER FI DOC and THANK YOU. You are not forgotten DOC

Doc Lucas, I think about you every day the sacrafice you made for me and our country. The round you took was ment for me. I've thought about it a billion times the day you got hit. I still don't know why God took you instead of me. You were everything a CORPMAN is suppose to be. You cared about your Marines and you took care of them the best you knew how. We ask you not to take any chances but you came out to help anyway you were fearless. I thank you my BROTHER for the life I've had because of you. Luke was a young, generous, outgoing, personality that took his job as a Field Med Hospital Corpsman very seriously. He was also one of the best running backs I ever played with during our time at the Naval Hospital Camp Lejune, N.C. I have carried the Stars & Stripes Report of his death in the KIA report printed each week during the war. I will never forget him, as it is a constant reminder that young men die so other men can live. I have met his mother and father, they welcomed me into their home after I had spent several hours at Luke's gravesite.we ate dinner together.I was happy and sad at the same time.my goal in visiting was to let Betty and Bob know that there are many people who will never forget their son.I being one. With the approval of Luke's parents, I placed a Navy Hospital Corpsman patch on his black granite headstone.I hope it is still there. I will never understand how God took his life and spared mine during my own tour in 1969-70. It is now 2005 and my memories of Luke remain as vivid today as they did when we first met at Camp Lejune 1968.and I pray every day his image will never leave my mind and soul. May God Bless him and protect him in heaven, as I will protect his memory on earth. God Bless you Luke.and I look forward to seeing you again when God calls me home.
