Lionel Raymond lraym613@earthlink.net The Basic School Platoon mate 8179 Barnett Street Manassas, VA 20110 USA The Basic School Platoon mate Charlie was an interesting fellow. I recall him in the classes on various military subjects, reading something other than what was being instructed. It always amazed me that he could do that and still "ace" the tests. Unfortunately, this may have been his undoing, since those with the highest grades in the company were assigned to Military Occupational Specialties that required officers who were a "cut above" in intelligence. Artillery was one of those trades. I always thought that the USMC would have been better served by having Charlie in a more "organizational" trade such as supply or motor transport or communications. It was a sad loss for everyone. Friday, July 02, 2004 |
