JOHN  O'DONNELL MARINE VETERAN 65-68 HONORING A BRAVE MARINE SOME CAME HALF WAY ROUND THE WORLD FROM PLACE LIKE BANGOR MAINE, FROM THE SMOKEY MOUNTAINS FROM THE PLAIN STATE AND THE STATES ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI RIVER.TO THE GREAT LAKES AND THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST SOME CAME FROM OTHER COUNTRIES LIKE CANADA AND AUSTRALIA AND IRELAND, MANY CAME FROM THE AMERICAN TERR. LIKE PURETO RICO AND GUAM. THEY CAME TOGETHER TO FIGHT AGAINST THE COMMON ENEMY. TO HELP A FREE NATION SURVIVE. Jack Newell jackson97@comcast.net Brother Viet Vet The 1967 John Bartram High School graduate moved to Delaware County from Southwest Philadelphia in January 1968, 16 days before joining the Marine Corps. The 19-year-old private first class, a rifelman with Company K of the 3rd Battalion, 26th Marines, was killed on November 24, 1968, in Quang Nam Province, Vietnam. He was survived by his parents, two brothers and a sister. Stephen lived on Chestnut Street, in Colwyn, Delaware County, Pennsylvania. The three men mentioned are Sp/4 Raymond Ahern Jr. and PFC's Harry T. Kite Jr. and Stephen F. Selgrade. Marine Pfc. Stephen Selgrade, 19, of 106 Chestnut st., Colwyn, Delaware County. Pfc. Selgrade lived in Colwyn for 16 days before joining the Marines last January. He had lived at 54th and Kingsessing ave., previously. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. George Selgrade Sr. of Colwyn. After training at Parris Island, SC and Camp Lejuene, NC and San Diego, he shipped out with the 3d Regiment, 26th Marine Division on September 26. He was killed Sunday during a military sweep of the DMZ.In his last letter home he said the bombing halt was hurting the fighting men in Vietnam, and told of the combat mission he was about to take part in. He was engaged to Catherine (Cass) Kennedy, 18, of 5527 Linmore ave. Beside his parents, he leaves two brothers, George Jr., 24, and Thomas 13, and a sister, Mrs Eleanor Thompson, 22.
