Garnet  Jenkins Grand Junction Co. ~ Rest With God, Young Hero ~
In Tribute to Cpl Peni Ueli, with So Much Gratitude for his Courage, Service and Dedication to our Country and for Freedom. Rest well and know that you will NEVER BE FORGOTTEN. I am the sister of such a young hero, who also made the Supreme Sacrifice in Vietnam 1967....."NOR SHALL YOUR GLORY BE FORGOT, WHILE FAME HER RECORD KEEPS, OR HONOR POINTS TO THE HALLOWED SPOT, WHERE VALOR PROUDLY SLEEPS" ~ Theodore O'Hara ~ Jan 16, 2008 |

Fellow  Marine Well done Marine rest in peace THE TIME you won your town the race We chaired you through the market-place Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder-high. To-day, the road all runners come, Shoulder-high we bring you home, And set you at your threshold down, Townsman of a stiller town. Smart lad, to slip betimes away From fields where glory does not stay And early though the laurel grows It withers quicker than the rose. Eyes the shady night has shut Cannot see the record cut, And silence sounds no worse than cheers After earth has stopped the ears: Now you will not swell the rout Of lads that wore their honours out, Runners whom renown outran And the name died before the man. So set, before its echoes fade, The fleet foot on the sill of shade, And hold to the low lintel up The still-defended challenge-cup. And round that early-laurelled head Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead, And find unwithered on its curls The garland briefer than a girl’s. A.E. Housman, "Don't be afraid, I've redeemed you. I've called your name. You're mine. Isaiah 43:1 (REN) Semper Fi

Bob Burns difrompi@aol.com Platoon Member 14300 NE 71st Vancouver, wa 98682 Cpl Ueli, It's Christmas again, 39 years since we celebrated that day in Vietnam. Not a real good night. We could hear locals off in the distance singing carols or the music from them I don't recall which. It was only a few weeks before Operation Mallard begun. I remember you in Okinawa and the issues you seemed to run into with the local police. We had a great time there training the Battalion in jungle warfare while we were the aggressors. I look at your photo often. They told us that you survived the day after you were med evacted and I never you knew you died until much later. I will always remember, thanks for your example and sacrifice that others might live free. Semper Fi! Devil Dog. Saturday, December 25, 2004 |
