Mary  (Hansen) Farrell mary.farrell@chello.at partner Venediger Au 8 - 71 Vienna A-1020 Austria In Memory and a dream fulfilled It is 49 years since you were tragically taken from us. When you were killed, I vowed that some day I would go to Vietnam to be close to where your life ended and my life changed forever. In March, 2015, I was able to fulfill my dream. With Michael’s help, I was able to get to Tam Hai and to the rock where you had once stood.
During all these years, it has been the little things that I have remembered. For you personally, I recalled your kindness, your love of America and your sense of duty. For the two of us, it was the skiing, the swimming, the sailing, the walks along the beach, the quiet moments, the long talks, the smiles, the laughter and the love. After a while, these things eased the pain and brought joy to my heart because we had shared it all. I had to learn to honor the past while letting go at the same time. Your presence in my life made me a different person. Yet I still wonder what our lives would have been like had you not been taken from us.
As long as I am alive, your light will burn within me. Continue to rest in peace, my dear one. Mary

Lyle  Ungerecht Brother Dear Brother,
On this Veterans Day I am thinking of you as I do every day of my life. You and your fellow marines sacrifices are not forgotten and never will be. Thank you also for being a great friend to me in life and death and helping me be a better person. Your positive influence on my life can not be stated in words alone. I have had the good fortune over the past several years to meet several of your comrades and have never heard a negative comment from any of them. They have also helped me achieve some closure regarding your death as I now know what happened that dark, rainy night so many years ago. Thank you 'Doc' for all you have done for Dick, me and the rest of our family. I'm sure you didn't really have a choice as Dick was helping guide your actions. I will never forget what you have done and look forward to seeing you again one day soon.
God bless you Dick, Doc and all your comrades past and present.
I will see you all again one day. Nov 11, 2011 |

Gerry  Vuchetich Of all the people I have met over the years, you are one that I cannot forget. I was just a kid when you came to work at the Brainerd YMCA and your grace and peace showed me there was a better way to live than with harsh words and anger. On May 31, 2010, you will be in my prayers and words as I give the invocation at the Eagle Bend (MN) Memorial Day Service as we remember and honor our fallen friends. Dick, you are not forgotten. Michael  Hastriter michaelhastriter@comcast.net Fellow Marine 1955 East Oregon Avenue Provo Utah 84606 U.S.A. Gone But Not Forgotten Though you slumber now, we shall rise together again!
It is hard to believe that nearly 37 years have passed. What I have to say is difficult, long past due, and largely inadequately expressed. I still remember you like it was just yesterday. I remember our swims in Okinawa. You were like an Olympic swimmer and I could only dog paddle along.
Thought I was going to drown a few times, but you just kept swimming and encouraging me to do the same. Our values were the same and that always meant a lot to me. I also remember how we confided in each other during times of uncertainty and stress. You even stood guard over me during daily medical missions with the villagers. Most of all I remember a lot of good talks about those we loved back home. Many of them are still around and I suppose some are with you now. After many years, I have been blessed to learn about some of your family and friends via e-mail. I hope to meet some of them someday. I guess I was impressed (but not surprised) of how much they all loved you. Although I knew you for only 5 or 6 months, all that I saw in you was wholesome and good. If you were here now, I know you would be emanating that beautiful smile you seemed always to have. That's what I remember most about you. Why did you have to die on that awful rainy night? Many times I have asked myself that question ... why was I not on patrol with you. Maybe, just maybe ... it would have been different. It was such a test for all who knew you. I know in my heart that it was because you had already passed the great tests of life. We are still working on them, but why ponder providence? Until we meet again (and we will), continue in peace, my fellow Marine and dear friend.
