Tim  Zeiss My memories of my cousin Kevin are faint, since I was very young and he lived in Illinois. Yet, I do remember his funeral and how devastated family and friends were to lose Kevin. Now, years later, I understand that we didn't 'lose' him. He passed to the other side and his love and light still shines brightly. Peace to you Kevin and to all. May 26, 2012 |

Mary Ellen Jenkins Hauser mejh05@gmail.com cousin NJ In Memory of our cousin - we miss you.
To dream the impossible dream To fight the unbeatable foe To bear with unbearable sorrow...
To run where the brave dare not go To right the unrightable wrong To love pure and chaste from afar To try when your arms are too weary To reach the unreachable star This is my quest, to follow that star No matter how hopeless, no matter how far To fight for the right, without question or pause To be willing to march into Hell, for a Heavenly cause And I know if I'll only be true, to this glorious quest, And my heart will lie will lie peaceful and calm, when I'm laid to my rest And the world will be better for this That one man, scorned and covered with scars Still strove, with his last ounce of courage To reach the unreachable star
Every time I hear this song, I think of Kevin. He sang it to his mother before leaving for Vietnam.
When the 'Woodses' came back to NJ to visit, it was always such an exciting time - except this time in 1968. Miss you cousin. Jun 5, 2010 |

John  Laird jplaird@verizon.net lifelong childhood best friend 826 Colonna Lane Nazareth Pa 18064 USA A friend never forgotten John Kevin Woods 'Kevin' was my best friend growing up. He moved away and kept in touch with me and others after the move. When he would visit in his teenage years, he would split his time between families staying at my house and then at my other friend , Jim O., so as not to offend best friends. That was the last time we saw Kevin when the notification of his death in Vietnam came several years later. I attended his funeral, Beverly National Cemetary, Burlington County, New Jersey. The Captain in charge of the Marine burial was and still is my brother-in-law. There hasn't been a time go by that I haven't thought of Kevin and still cry silently for him and his family. I hope his brother Jim has prospered and that his parents found peace and comfort knowing what a fine, and decent person who still remains in our hearts. I still carry a childhood picture along with his Marine picture. So much has transpired these past 40 years I said goodby to you so many years ago my dear friend. We shall carry on with pride until we meet again.

Fellow  Marine Well done Marine rest in peace THE TIME you won your town the race We chaired you through the market-place Man and boy stood cheering by, And home we brought you shoulder-high. To-day, the road all runners come, Shoulder-high we bring you home, And set you at your threshold down, Townsman of a stiller town. Smart lad, to slip betimes away From fields where glory does not stay And early though the laurel grows It withers quicker than the rose. Eyes the shady night has shut Cannot see the record cut, And silence sounds no worse than cheers After earth has stopped the ears: Now you will not swell the rout Of lads that wore their honours out, Runners whom renown outran And the name died before the man. So set, before its echoes fade, The fleet foot on the sill of shade, And hold to the low lintel up The still-defended challenge-cup. And round that early-laurelled head Will flock to gaze the strengthless dead, And find unwithered on its curls The garland briefer than a girl’s. A.E. Housman, "Don't be afraid, I've redeemed you. I've called your name. You're mine. Isaiah 43:1 (REN) Semper Fi
