Susan Johanson Ferndale WA 98248 May God bless your soul! You are truly an American hero - fighting in both Korea and Vietnam. You were a true leader of men, dedicated to the country you so valiantly served. Your family, friends and fellow soldiers can certainly be proud of you. Even though I did not know you, I wish to honor your memory and let you and your family know you will never be forgotten.I lost a cousin in Korea, six classmates and a friend in Vietnam. The sadness never leaves, but knowing others care helps. Oct 3, 2011 |

David Haynes hedgehog@pacbell.net Fellow soldier Santa Rosa CA. USA To A great Sergeant I served with SMJ Zietlow in 1967 in the 54th. He was a soldier's sergeant, a fair and honest man and a leader by far. He was killed just after I left and I was deeply saddened by his passing. I don't remember many, but I'll always remember Zietlow.

John Zietlow looking42z@sbcglobal.net He was an uncle I never met An Uncle that decide to give his life, so that I may be able to write this. I grew up knowing that my " Uncle Laurence was serving his country". I was never able to meet him, only because he was killed before his return from Vietnam. I was present at his funeral, and to be honest I was scared to death. We had just taken a train trip from Texas to North Dakota when I was only about 7 yrs old. It took the Honor Guard to actually pull me from the car, in order for me to attend the funeral. I truly do not know much about my Uncle, but it did impress me enlist after I got out of High School. I realize that there will be few that read this, but if you should, remember, my uncle gave his life so that I may write this and that you can read it as well.
If anyone served with him I would love to hear from you, and perhaps meet you in the future.
God Bless America...
I know that I was too young to welcome you home, I do now in the only way I can........"THANK YOU!!!" 8/8/2006 |

William Chandler wchandler@cox.rr.com
CSM Zietlow was Command Sergeant Major of the 54th Signal Battalion while I commanded in1966-1967. He was KIA shortly after being selected as the Command Sergeant Major for the First Field Force, Vietnam (IFFV) in Nha Trang. CSM Zietlow had been Sergeant Major of nine different Battalions, beginning as a young man in the Korean War. He was a great soldier, and his death a great loss to the Army and the Country.
