A true follower of Christ
I just finished reading 'The Grunt Padre'. I am deeply inspired by the total dedication of Father Vincent Capodanno to the Marines he shared his life with. There is no greater love than to lay down one's life for another. It is a privilege to have known him.

Never Forgotten
Father, I know you are with Jesus and His Blessed Mother, you were truly a man of God, and like Him, you gave up your life so that others might live.

As a soldier who as served his duty, I pray God that he may rest in the shade of your splendor and majesty, no longer held by the troubles of this world, to enjoy the Heaven you have prepared for him and his fellow soldiers. This man has laid down his life, associating himself with the struggles of soldiers in combat, for them to better reach understanding with You, amen.

On a visit to Camp Pendleton in 2010, I drove around looking at some of my old service areas (Camp Horno, Camp Las Pulgas). We came upon a chapel, and noticed a sign that read 'Vincent Capodanno Chapel.' I asked a few nearby Marines why this chapel was named for Father Capodanno. None of them knew of him, or why it was named for him. May 2011, the moving Vietnam Wall came to Ventura County and my friend located his name. An unbelievable shock. I met Father Cap sometime after I arrived in Chu Lai, V.N., July '66. He served Mass to about 15 Catholics prior to us going on several operations (Hastings, Praire). I remember him being so young and friendly. I would shake his hand and say 'thanks.' I rotated back in July '67 and I oftened wondered about Father Capodanno. Now I'll always think of him.

Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. “He which hath no stomach, to this fight, let him depart. But we in it, shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother.” Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless you, for your Sacrifice!!!
