Bill you have been Gone 43 years today, As I have said before, I get very sad when I think about ALL you might have accomplished and what your children - had you had any - would have accomplished. I tried to visit your grave at Calvery Cmemetary BUT it has snowed the night before and I could not find your stone. I know you will continue to help us who still miss you and wait to be united with you. Thanks again Bill for your sacrifice. Bill Tomsick

A Tribute to My Brother William James Papa Born: September 1, 1945 Killed in Action in VietNam – May 5, 1968 Going back to when we were children, there was myself, Bill, and then our sister, Josephine. I was the eldest. We were all five years apart. Our parents were very loving, and our grandparents( Grandma and Grandpa Trecarichi) were like another set of parents. They were all immigrants from Italy and became very hard-working, moral, and loyal citizens of the USA. They were “salt of the earth” type of people who would give you their last dime or the shirt of their backs if need be.. As we were growing up, these values were instilled in us. Bill was the only boy and did well in school. He enjoyed sports, and he was an altar boy in our church. I always had the feeling he was close to God. One of my recollections of him as a small boy was when he would get upset with my parents because they would not let him do as he wished. He would pack up his belongings to run away from home. However, he would never get beyond the front gate because he knew he wasn’t allowed to leave the yard! Bill attended high school for two years at Benedictine and then on to Garfield Heights High School. He worked in our father’s grocery store. He went on to Cuyahoga Community College where he met Mary Jo, the girl he became engaged to. He was tall and handsome, and he was well-liked and respected by all who knew him. He was a people person. He had a lot of leadership qualities that actually helped to elevate him to the rank of sergeant when he got to VietNam I had two small daughters, ages two and three, when Bill entered the service. I can still see him playing on the floor with them – laughing and enjoying each other. While in VietNam, his letters never indicated the great danger he was in or the hardships that he was enduring daily. He was always upbeat, and he was always inquiring about how we were all doing back home. Among his personal effects are two purple hearts, a medal for twenty-five helicopter missions over enemy territory, and a medal from the Republic of VietNam. Bill was always helping people, and he died doing just that. No sister could be any prouder of her brother than I am of him. Being a Christian, I believe that one day we will be united with our loved ones. What great hope there is in that! There is a familiar phrase that says “all gave some, but some gave all”. Bill was one of those special people – loyal – dedicated to family and country – who gave all. Forty years have passed, Bill, and I miss you as much today as I did then. I love you, very, very much! Your sister, Mary Rose
