I was scared and angry at the same time Art, Scared I would be next, and angry that the NVA took your life. Art was a hero to me.

Tina  Rice motary@frontiernet.net neighbor Looking up to Art We became neighbors of the Rambo's when I was just 5 years old. We fell in love with the Rambo family and when Art brought his wife Helen home to Libby and they temporarily lived in a small travel trailer next to the "big house", my sister and I loved to visit them. Art was bigger than life and Helen was wonderful we especially remembered her sugar cookies. They had two sweet babies, Kerry Lynn and then Amy Dee (we always thought of them by both their names). I still remember the day and where I was when we found out that Art had been killed. Next to the death of Kennedy, it was the next big moment in my life. I have often wondered what kind of great things Art would have done with his life. I have concluded that God just needed him more. Thank you Art for your service to our country. We are so sorry you didn't make it home. May 22, 2008 |

Helen Christensen chrishelen@bresnan.net Wife 182 Sandpiper Loop Helena MT 59602 USA
An engineering graduate, an outstanding student, a soloist, husband and father, Art Rambo was a good friend and an admirable man. After graduating from Libby High School, he attended Carroll College in Helena, MT. During his Carroll years, he was a soloist and performed lead roles in a number of musical productions at Carroll, including “Camelot” and “The Fantastics.” Under the 3-2 Engineering Program, Art received his bachelor of arts degree in mathematics from Carroll in 1967 and completed his engineering studies at the University of Notre Dame, graduating with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering in 1968. In September 1968, Art was drafted and upon completion of basic and advanced training, attended the Artillery Combat Leadership course at Ft. Sill, OK. After 11 months in the service, he was promoted to the rank of staff sergeant, an accomplishment achieved by only one-tenth of one percent of all Army personnel. Art’s superiors attested that he was an exceptionally brilliant man and was rated as highly qualified. He shipped out to Vietnam in August 1969. Three months later, on November 26, 1969, he was serving with the 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment in charge of an artillery gunnery crew when his squadron came under hostile fire from mortars and North Vietnamese Army ground attack. Art died when a rocket-propelled grenade hit his vehicle. For his heroism, he was posthumously awarded the Silver Star, Bronze Star, Purple Heart and Vietnamese Presidential Citation. His survivors include his wife, Helen, and his two daughters, Kerry and Amy, both of whom were under the age of two when he died. Had he lived, he would be the proud grandfather of 7. Art was an exceptionally fine person and we will always remember him for the way he lived rather than the way he died. Sep 23, 2007 |

Joseph Trincheira maxcyber@gmail.com Friend 8812 S. DELAWARE AVENUE Tulsa, OK 74101 USA Unknown Friend My name is Joseph A. Trincheira, they called me "Trinch", I was in the vietnan war with Art. I remember him as a good friend. We had the same age at this time, Art always was a good partner. I remember once that he was filling a terrible tooth ache, so I asked him to open his mouth to check what was wrong, I saw one rotten tooth on the left teeth raw then I got to extract that tooth using a single fork, he was crying but not too much. He had a talent to control the pain. I have a lot of memories with Art, he was always singing and dancing, bringing some joy to us. Art was a hero. there is no doubt. I was used to call him "Rambino" because he was looking a preacher in the war with his jokes about Jews. Art, anywhere you are. you are better now. But you always will be in my heart. Our friend Amado, "Amado Batista", the same guy that you confessed your first date, he lives in Brazil now, We are missing you too much. Your good friend, Trinch Thursday, March 24, 2005 |
