Peter Gould SGM(R) Gould714@gte.net A member, of his Platoon-one, of the squad leaders 1410, Lakehurst Way, Brandon, Florida, 33511, USA A fallen Hero I knew him, when he was, in Vietnam. We spent, long hours together. When he was killed, he died, in my arms. It happened, on a warm day, in the northern part, of S., Vietnam, on the border, near the coast. You could, smell the ocean. He wanted, to go home. The CO., (Cpt., White) asked him, to go out on one, more mission. We tried to let him, stay behind, but he was, a leader and epitimized everything, that is good, in America. I was a distance away, from him and even today, I can see, the smoke and smell, the cordite. He did, not suffer. It's strange, to have someone, die, in your arms. I kept back the tears, all these years. I seen through my 27, year, Army career, his keen intelect and smile, in all, the young officers and men, in the army. His love, of country and diligence is carried today, as a parade, goes by. You can see his face, in the flag, as it waves and snaps, in the wind. You can hear his voice, in the cheers, at West Point, when the newly, commisioned, cadets graduate. His spirit, did not die. It went, through me, to those, I trained! Now I have laid down, my arms, to rest. He forever and I, for awhile, until we meet, on our last, patrol. He was, the most liked and most competent platoon leader, in the Battalion and he had, many friends. He was, a friend and I'am very honored, to have, known him. America, his descendents, anyone who reads these pages, know you this - he was one, of the best, this country produced! He did, us all proud! Peter E. Gould, SGM.,(R) U.S., Army.
