I just ran, across this hero, on the web, as I was, searching out info., on the Corpsman. I wanted, to take the time, to thank him, his family and comrades. His bravery and sacrifice, are something I can appreciate, as I see it, so much, in my favorite Corpsman, Doc., Duty, the Corpsman, who tried so hard, to save my son's life, in Iraq. God bless, De'on Miller, Proud GSM., of LCpl., Aaron C. Austin, USMC., KIA., April 26, 2004, in Fallujah, Iraq.

Jim was the last person, that I would have expected to perish, in Viet Nam. I remember him as a very peaceful, artistic fellow. He and I sang together, in the school choir, and ironically, his favorite song was "Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream," recorded by the Kingston Trio. The funeral service for Jim is something, that I will never forget. His parents, so unbelievably strong and graceful, and so many friends, from Danville, are testament to what a fine young man, he was. It has been thirty, years, since Jim's death, but I remember his face, his spirit, his gentle soul, as if it were yesterday.

Who would have Jim become?
I think of Jim, often, he and I were pretty close friends from 7th grade, on through graduation, in 66, when I left the area and never looked back. He was one of those kids, you remember, smart, but a little different. Even the coolest kids, knew, you could rib Jim, but it was never mean, or hurtful, as everyone knew he had something special going and he just would smile, laugh and shake his head. When I think of Viet Nam, I think of Jim and the thousands, like him who would have gone on, to great things and benifited us all, in ways we now can only guess. What a loss, what a lesson.

D. BURT
A GRATEFUL AMERICAN
RHODE ISLAND, USA
**TO HONOR, AN AMERICAN HERO, NOT FORGOTTEN**

"Our debt, to the heroic men and valiant women, in the service of our country, can never be repaid, they have earned our undying gratitude. America will never, forget their sacrifices." - PRESIDENT HARRY S. TRUMAN ~ ~ ~ HN., CARDINALE, USN. - Although many years have passed, you, are not forgotten, this day, nor will, you ever be. I will forever be grateful, for the honorable service and supreme sacrifice, that you have, so courageously bestowed, upon our nation. You will forever live, in the hearts, of all of those, you have touched. Rest well, brave sailor. - - - It's "Corpsman Up!" when things, get hot - The nearest thing to God, we've got - "Corpsman Up!" to save, a breath - "Corpsman Up!" in the face, of death - - - I'am very grateful and would like to honor, all, of our Vietnam veterans, who have, so proudly and courageously served, our country. No veteran should, ever be forgotten. The veteran, who lived through, this horrible war, left with everlasting, memories and whose lives, may be altered forever, the disabled veteran who returned, with hardships and many, permanent reminders and the pain, of that war, the POW/MIA., veteran, we wait for and whose family and friends, are tormented, for so, so long, not knowing and the fallen veteran, who gave his/her life, at such a young age, leaving their families, devastated forever - all, had one thing, in common and that was to fight, for our freedom, our country - we owe them, so much and a thank you, is where, to begin and to never forget them, for their gallantry, fortitude and valor. I salute each and every one, of them.~~~~

38 YEARS, 1 MONTH AGO
Jim I had almost forgotten you when my son called today while visiting the Wall, which I have never taken the opportunity to do. I immediately thought of you and asked him to visit your plaque. You were our only classmate who perished in the war. I learned today that it was on only your 50th day of duty. You were still a teenager. I am in shock. We Americans owe you and all your fellow war heroes over far too many wars a tremendous debt of gratitude. Thank you for your sacrifice. It was exactly 38 years and one month ago today. I shall try never to forget that you made the ultimate sacrifice for our wonderful country. THAT defines being a true hero. Roger Lett San Ramon High School Class of '66
