I helped, to build, the Vietnam, Veteran Memorial, in Somers, NY.. Mike's mother and father, were the first to call, when we were, interviewed, on a local, radio show, announcing, the the project. She went on, from a quiet, motherly, shy type, to quite an outspoken woman, talking to groups, about the need to remember, the vets.. Two years after I met, her, the memorial, was built. About a month before the dedications, she became ill and couldn't, attend. A few months after that, she died, of cancer. She never let, on, she was sick and never lost, focus, on the memorial. She was, an incredible woman. Mike would have, been proud. I made, a promise, I would remember Mike's name, always and always visit the memorial, on her behalf. Mike J. Amato, is a friend, I never knew.

40 years ago this month we completed training together at Parris Island, SC, 1st Recruit Training Battalion, Company B, Platoon 114. On 6 May, 1965 we parted ways as "Marines" never to meet again. You made the ultimate sacrifice for your country. I'm proud to have served with you and will never forget you. Semper Fi, Sgt. John L. Weigand, USMC Memorial Day 30 May, 2005

Happy Birthday, Cousin!
Michael. I never got to meet you, but through the wonderful research of some friends, I have been able to contact people who have told me amazing stories about you. I am truly blessed to have met these amazing people, though in a somber way. On this day, I want you to know that I think of you always, have your picture up on my wall since I was a child and have often wondered about you. May you always know that you're the wind beneath my wings. Semper Fi brave cousin. I love you! Michele
