Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. "He which hath no stomach to this fight let him depart. But we in it shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother.” Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless You for your Sacrifice!!!

++++++++ Happy 62nd Birthday, Ben! ++++++++

Our Dearest Ben... Happy Birthday Honey. You have been away from us 39 years now. Seems like yesterday you were waving goodbye to all of us from the airplane window departing Mobile Municipal Airport. If I had only known it would be the last time I got to see you, I would of rode in your car to be with you to the airport. I wouldn't of gone down to the gift shop with Daniela and missed your hug goodbye. I wouldn't of taken for granted that you would return home. And at ten years old... I know I would have clung on for dear life and begged you not to go. But, I know it wouldn't have done any good to beg you to stay... because you were a fighting soldier willing to lay down his life for his fellow man. For that I thank you! I love you Ben! Always, Sarah

Ben, on September 5, 2006 Our Andrea gave birth to our first grandchild. We knew it was a boy, but the name was kept secret until he arrived. Andrea (Andi) married her soulmate Jeff whose last name happens to be Thompson. She always held a special place in her heart for her Uncle Ben, a man she honors and respects and loves very much... she has named her son in his honor. Ryan Benjamin Thompson's story begins with his namesake... his great-Uncle Ben... who will never be forgotten! We love you! Always, Sarah, Scott, Robyn, Andi, Jeff and Ryan

MY BROTHER, OUR HERO, S.Sgt. BENJAMIN A. THOMPSON,JR.
First, I feel the need to set the record concerning the "facts" about my brother,Ben. He DID NOT lose his life the first day of duty in Viet Nan.He had been there since APRIL 28,1968.He had spent his R.& R. in Hawaii with his wife, Marianna, the month of August and had returned to combat duty some twenty-five days before this tragedy occured.Second,he had served more than four years in the Army. He joined the Army just before his 18th birthday.His first tour of combat duty was at the DOMINICAN REPUBLIC in May 1965.There he was awarded the Bronze Star Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster for Meritious Service as well as the Bronze Star with V device for valor.In 1966 he transfered to Berlin Germany for two years before volunteering to help his fellow comrads to fight in the Viet Nam War. With this being said, I ask, how a person or organization know what REALLY happened to my brother as NO TWO DOCUMENTS my family recieved were the same? There are different dates, locations, and curcumstances concerning my brother.The facts are NO ONE has the facts concerning the events surrounding the lost of my brother.I have and will continue to search for the real truth.I pray for the day they bring his remains "home".Ben was born an American, fought American,WHY CAN'T HE REST IN PEACE IN AMERICA?

This is what Congressman Bernie Sanders, Vermont did for you
HON. BERNARD SANDERS in the House of Representatives WEDNESDAY, MARCH 6, 1996 Mr. SANDERS. Mr. Speaker, on Saturday, February 10, in signing the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 1996, the President signed into law the Missing Service Personnel Act of 1995, which had been incorporated into the authorization bill. The passage of the provisions of the Missing Service Personnel Act is a significant milestone for veterans and for the families of our MIA's, and I rise today to give credit to some of the people, including some of my fellow Vermonters, who worked hard for the passage of these provisions. Their dedication, commitment, and persistence in the face of overwhelming odds has finally brought to fruition a matter that has been their primary concern for over 13 years. And I am very proud that my fellow Vermonters have played such a significant role in this effort. I cosponsored the Missing Service Personnel Act of 1995 after being convinced by Patricia Sheerin, Don Amorosi, Sean McGuirl, Walt Handy, and Al Diacetis of the desperate need for this law. The act is the culmination of years of effort on the part of my fellow Vermonters Tom Cook, Bob Jones, and Brian Lindner, the president, vice president, and chief of research, respectively, of the Northeast POW/MIA Network and Jim Howley and the veterans organizations who have supported it, including Vietnam Veterans of America, the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Disabled American Veterans. Most notable were the contributions of the family members of the missing and prisoners: Tom Cook, Sharon Roraback, and Sarah Pendris. Were it not for a special conference held in 1993 by the Northeast POW/MIA Network, we would not today have a law to protect missing service persons, to protect their families from exploitation, and to grant basic human rights to the missing as well as their families. Under the guidance of a former POW, Lt. Col. Orson Swindle, participants in that conference were able to clarify the goals of the proposed Missing Service Personnel Act as originally authored by John Holland. Mr. Swindle pointed a new direction: That while we cannot solve all the problems of the past, we can protect missing service persons in the future, based on what we have learned from past mistakes. Through her courage and intuition, Vermonter Patricia Sheerin, policy analyst for the Northeast POW/MIA Network, convinced the National Vietnam Veterans Coalition to support the legislation and work for its passage. She also formed a plan and policy uniting veterans organizations and veterans advocates with the sole purpose of correcting and updating the outdated Missing Service Persons Act of 1942. Crucial to passage of this new law was the support of citizens who were informed about its benefits. Joe and Paula Donaldson of Fair Haven, VT, deserve credit for organizing a weekly vigil as part of this educational effort. Nationwide distribution of information on the progress of the legislation, a responsibility of Bob Necci, helped pave the way to passage of this important act. Education is often the key to success, and such was the case with the Missing Service Personnel Act of 1995. I commend the supporters of this bill for their loyalty and devotion to the men and women who wear the uniform of the U.S. Armed Forces. These Vietnam veterans and family members of those missing and captured in Vietnam have left a legacy of justice and fair treatment for future soldiers who become missing while fighting to defend our country and our freedom.

Thanks for the memories Bubba! and for Boo Boo
Ben, I don't think you ever knew just how much you meant to me. I was ten when you went missing. That was 33 years ago today (OCT 25, 1968). Just want you to know my brother, we never gave up hope. Not for a moment. May you rest in peace where ever you are and know that you are always in my heart. I recently met a friend of yours online, She's Christy B, and she's been wearing your POW/MIA Bracelet for about ten years now. So has Aunt Juanita's son in law Richard. Just remember my love, you will never be forgotten! Love, Sarah P.S. You are a GRANDPA! :)
