THE EARTH SITS IN SILENCE TONIGHT, FOR AN ANCIENT HYMN TO BEGIN AGAIN. NOT WISHING FOR DRUMS OF WAR. BECAUSE WARS ECHO STILL REVERBERATES LIKE THE LONG AGO MUFFLED DRUMBEATS OF SOBBING HEARTS. THE EARTH STILL HOLDS THEM TIGHTLY TONIGHT. REFUSING TO LET GO SUCH PRECIOUS THINGS, WHILE YOUR SPACE BECAME ENGRAVED SORELY.

A Terrible Loss, of Another of America's Finest
Robert Francis Bacon, was small in stature, however in the three, months, of basic training, he became as large, a part of my life as a family member. Bob was, an art teacher in a school and unfortunately, could not obtain a deferment. A college grad, like myself, we found ourselves a little older being drafted. Bob was bright, had a great sense of humor, a great sense of patriotism and took, his duties and training seriously. Even with his college degree, he became a combat specialist (grunt) and didn't complain. We wished each other well, as we separated basic training. The next time I heard about him, was in a letter I received, from another buddy in-country writing to me to tell me, he heard about Bob's Death. My life changed that minute, not from my being in Vietnam also, but by the overbearing loss of someone, who didn't deserve, or need to die, like so many others. I have visited "The Wall," to pay my respects, to Bob and the "Others." In New Jersey, we have our own beautiful memorial, with all the N.J., names. When I don't stop to visit, I salute as I drive by, on the Garden State Parkway. I just started my 30th, anniversary, of my tour and my dogtags have a black engraved dogtag, added with Bob's name. He is a part of me, everyday and I only knew him very personally, for 3 months. What does, that tell you? I'am active in Veteran Affairs, dedicating my life to his memory.
