My colleague/War Brother
I was with Co.C on 474 on 25 Jan.70. I was one of 4 men who carried Oscar (we called him 'Speedy') out of the circle of caves when he was shot. We guarded his body all night. He was a cool dude and as Brave as a man should be. I am honored to be able to make this post. 41 years ago. It is like yesterday. Be at Peace War Brother

'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables' from Les Miserables
Oh my friends , my friends forgive me that I live and you are gone. There's a grief that can't be spoken there's a pain goes on and on Phantom faces at the window. Phantom shadows on the floor. Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will meet no more. Oh my friends, my friends, don't ask me what your sacrifice was for. Empty chairs at empty tables where my friends will sing no more...

You are not forgotten
My Mom was born in Hidalgo, Texas. I visited there a couple times over the years to get to know where she was from. I am Lipan Apache by her so my roots go back to the first nations even before this was America. My ancestors fought for FREEDOM as Oscar and all the veterans have. I was issued a New Testament when I first arrived at basic in 1970, I still have it. The first thing I wrote in it was, Is what you are living for worth dying for? It is easy to question each other why we believe things but when we are chosen to defend our beliefs (FREEDOM) many of us want the easy jobs. I don't blame you but Oscar paid the ultimate price for FREEDOM. I survived and thank God every day for that. I hope that my life has been lived in a way that Oscar and all those that gave thier lives for our country will look down at me and know that what they gave was not in vain. I thank God for my life and FREEDOM. God bless Oscar, his family and freinds. You are not forgotten my freind.
