Arlene Herring-Hardwick hardwick.herring@gmail.com sister 1702, Sherbrooke Circle, Laurinburg, NC., 28352, Scotland Unique Individual It will have been 40, years, this summer, that Johnny died, in Vietnam, and this is, my first visit to this site and his page. I still cry and cry as I write this. I remember him as forever young and impressionable and loved by his friends. He was the first in our school to let his hair, grow longer, than the usual crew cut and one of the few, in our hometown, who died, in Vietnam. All-conference, in high school football, friendly and loved. The more, I learn, about the war and the things, that happened, the more I wonder, how any of the veterans, could return, to the lives, they lived, before serving. I write this, Johnny, but for all, of the others, who served also. The magnitude, of the sacrifice for the living and the dead, cannot be repaid, cannot be understood, by those, of us, who stayed, safely at home, listening, to the news, on television and radio. When the General, said, war is Hell, he had, to have, been talking about, the things, that men and women, can't talk about, when they return, the things, that keeps them, awake, at night, the things, that haunts, their every living, hour and minute, the things, that keeps them, from feeling, human again. My hope, is that those, who find themselve, in situations, like these, remember that they, were asked to do, what no man, or woman, should be asked, to do. Travel thousands, of
miles, from home and destroy, another way, of life, foreign, to their own and face, the hatred, of those oppressed, individuals. The upside, would have, to be, the men, women, and children of those foreign lands, who welcomed them, to their land, in hopes, of a better, life and an easier burden. I hope, all veterans, of foreign wars, knew the kindness, of a foreign, man, woman, or child and was able, to return, their kindness. I hope, they all rest, in peace, knowing that, their intentions, were honorable, and, in the best, interest, of mankind. It is, my hope, it is my prayer, that all future, acts, of aggression ,can be stopped, before they start, that someday, peace will come, to us all. Apr 24, 2008
