Member of the Giants Platoon
Back in August 1967 a bunch of guys were treated to a Giants game in San Francisco's Candlestick Park before we jumped on a plane to San Diego for boot camp. We were brought onto the field at the beginning of the game and sworn into the Marine Corps. The fans were told that forever more we 70 guys would now be known as the Giants Platoon and represent the best of Northern California. I was proud as I think James and the rest. We watched about half the game and then we were told to move out to the bus and head to SFO. We flew PSA and landed in San Diego near dark. We were shocked at our reception with the DI's but we all persevered and at the end of our training we were the Honor Platoon (Platoon 1034) for that particular training regiment. We were the best we won every pennant except 'DRILL' Marching (I think it was because of me). I'm proud to have known James that brief time, I remember him as tough and disciplined. He showed me what a 'tough' Marine looks like. He proved he was Marine. As we were separated by our MOS and sent to ITR I never saw him again.
