Mike  Hemmert mhemmert@comcast.net I knew his Platoon Leader 1191 Main St. Hingham MA 02043 USA I did not know Tony personally but I was friends with his Platoon Leader, Lt. John Prince. John Spoke highly of Tony when we returned from Vietnam. I recall him saying that Tony was someone he could always depend on no matter the situation. Tony was with Lima Company, Third Battalion, Twenty Sixth Marines and he was involved in some of the worst combat of the Vietnam War. His company (Lima Company)and his death are chronicled in a book (Lima-6) by Col. R.D. Camp.Tony was a great Marine and a true hero. Dec 23, 2012

We were both sent to Nam after Infantry training but to different Units, and I did not know of his death until 15 years later. He is in my thoughts and prayers. Jack Newell jackson97@comcast.net Brother Viet Vet "Tony" Sawicki joined the Marine Corps a week after graduating from Frankford High School, where teachers remember him as a good student supportive of many school programs. An annual outstanding student award is presented each year at the school in Sawicki's name. The 19-year-old lance corporal, a rifleman, was sent to Vietnam and assigned to the 3rd Battalion of the 26th Marines. Sawicki was killed near Quang Tri, Vietnam, on September 10, 1967, by fragments from an enemy mortar shell. He was engaged to be married. He was survived by his parents, a sister and brother.
