Darrell Beard dbbeard@wcnet.org He was my section sargent 8702 Eagleville Rd. Bloomdale, Ohio 44817 USA He was a great guy and a good friend. He was a E-6 in Co D,40th Signal Bn,1st Signal Bde. at Phu Tai,Viet Nam about 13 miles west of Qui Nhon on Highway 1.He was our company reenlistment nco,and was on his way to Quang Tri to update reenlistment cards on a Platoon we had there.I had went with him before when things were slow just to get away for a few days. He asked me to go this time with him,and our Platoon Sargent said i could`nt go.This was on a Friday, and i talked to him before he left Saturday morning by the main gate.Saturday night i found out about the plane crash and could not beleive it.My platoon sargent told me about it,and i did`nt know what to say.You see,i was mad because he did`nt let me go.I asked him why,you let me go before with no problem. He looked at me and said,Darrell,i don`t know why,i just had a strange feeling you should`nt go.No particular reason. He was on a C130 cargo plane that crashed on take off,and i was told that everyone on board was killed. He was a great guy and liked by everyone.SSGT SIMPKIN, we all missed you,you will never be forgotton! Thank You also SFC KELLY,for your 6th sence,it will never be forgotton.
