A good Corpsmen dedicated to the care of his Marines

As the medical officer in charge of casualty care in our 200 bed hospital aboard the USS OKINAWA (LPH 3), I worked along with 'Smitty' on sick and injured Marines from Battalion 1/3 hospitalized during OPERATION BEAVER CAGE (April-May, 1967). Smitty and I were talking a day or so before the start of OPERATION BEAU CHARGER (May 18, 1967) about his plans to go to college after he got off active duty. He asked if I could write him a recommendation, and I said, 'I would happy to do so!'. He was killed by a sniper's bullet early in the morning of May 18. It was one of my most difficult moments to describe his wounds and sign his death certificate. He was a good Corpsman, a good Marine and a good guy! You can see the page I set up for him on Marines TWS at the link above. I wish i had more information or a photo to add to his memorial. I set up a similar page on Navy TWS
