May God bless your soul and bring peace to your family. Your fellow countrymen can be proud of the hero you are and be ever grateful and thankful for your service. As I pray at the Thanksgiving table this year, I will think of those who also are sharing a family meal and missing their loved one. They too, have sacrificed. I pray that JPAC will recover your remains and bring you home to your family. Please know you are a hero, to be remembered forever!

I have carried this bracelet for 40 years... wore it for about half that time. I'd like his family to have it, if they want.

I have had Douglas' bracelet with me for what seems like forever. Living in Hawaii at the time of the Vietnam war, and working at the airport I saw many servicemen come and go thru the gates there. I wore his bracelet for years after the war was over, often wondering what had happened to him. Today while visiting the travelling memorial wall in Seattle, I found his name, much to my sadness. I always hoped and prayed that somehow he had made it thru. I hope your family knows how many people had such prayers for Douglas. I also hope that you find peace in knowing that for many of us, he will live forever in our hearts for his sacrifice. sincerely, Dona Laird

Never to be Forgotten!
We were only 13 months apart. Oh how I still after all the years miss you terribly. I visit the traveling wall when it comes near and still cry as though it were just yesterday. I went to our 40 year class reunion this year and wore your bracelet so a little part of you could be there too. You were not forgotten. Your classmates asked about you and told me stories. Now my son, Rick, which was born the year you went MIA has built you a My Space page to honor your memory. Love you and miss you little brother.

Doug is my uncle (mom's brother). As a combat veteran myself I am honored to have been handed down from Doug's father (grandpa), sister (mom) numerous documents resulting from his service. I will do whatever I can to keep his memorial and "simple act of duty as he knew it" alive. Please feel free to contact me with questions, stories, etc. Tomorrow I get the opportunity to escort the moving wall from Spokane to Moses Lake, WA. I will visit with you Spc. Douglas F. Strait and thank you for your ultimate sacrifice.

I also wore Doug's bracelet in high school. I still have it and have always wondered about this young man. It's great to find this web site and see his picture. Thank you for sharing.
