Dona  Laird d_laird2@verizon.net unknown to me except for his name Lynnwood Wa 98036 USA I have had Douglas' bracelet with me for what seems like forever. Living in Hawaii at the time of the Vietnam war, and working at the airport I saw many servicemen come and go thru the gates there. I wore his bracelet for years after the war was over, often wondering what had happened to him. Today while visiting the travelling memorial wall in Seattle, I found his name, much to my sadness. I always hoped and prayed that somehow he had made it thru. I hope your family knows how many people had such prayers for
Douglas. I also hope that you find peace in knowing that for many of us, he will live forever in our hearts for his sacrifice.
sincerely, Dona Laird Aug 14, 2009

I visit the traveling wall when it comes near and still cry as though it were just yesterday. I went to our 40 year class reunion this year and wore your bracelet so a little part of you could be there too. You were not forgotten. Your classmates asked about you and told me stories. Now my son, Rick, which was born the year you went MIA has built you a My Space page to honor your memory. Love you and miss you little brother. Aug 4, 2008

Manuel Pino Bco 2/8th 1st Cav 68-69 mpjr54@msn.com Fellow Cav Brother C Trp 1st Sqd / 9th Cav Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things. You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung, high in the sunlit silence, hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew, and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.
