Your Never Forgotten Big Bro
Though this so called grateful nation has lost your records:( We remember and the kids and now the grandchildren are still doing book reports on their great Uncle Mike (I guess they called you Bill in Nam) I still adore my big brothers, I dearly miss Mike & ashamed of this country for losing all his medal records. He received all the medals there are, even a military Merit Medal & Gallantry Cross With Palm. I've always been angry about losing you, my Irish temper isn't getting any better about this issue. I wanted to thank John Horsley, I tried calling you some years ago. God Bless you all and GodBless all our forgotten Heroes. Kathy Chadwell

Forty years today
PFC: Today is forty years since you gave all for our country and our Corps. Someday we will meet in Heaven with its streets guarded by United States Marines. You are in the company of many forgotten heroes. Special thanks to Horsley and Kane who served with you and visited your site. Most are forgotten. A True Hero
After being ambushed by NVA regulars we had taken heavy casualties. I was in a bomb crater with other wounded Marines. Trying to gain fire superiority was difficult. We were in a crossfire from the NVA soldiers who moved from position to position via tunnels. They were within ten feet of our position. I was firing towards an enemy position that I could see. Although we were pinned down Bill, who was a machine gunner,made his way through heavy small arms fire to the bomb crater providing machine gun fire. His A gunner was wounded and could not get ammo for Bills M-60. After his ammo was spent Bill spotted an NVA soldier, within five feet of our position,getting ready to toss a grenade into the crater that we held. Bill grabbed an M-16 and fired at the enemy position. When his ammo ran out he then took a grenade and tossed it into the spider trap. Before the grenade detonated the NVA soldier managed to get a round off that killed Bill. The grenade that Bill tossed into the spider trap killed the NVA soldier an enabled us to gain fire superiority killing the rest of the enemy soldiers. Bill saved my life and the lives of many other Marines that were pinned down that day.A true Hero.
