How well I knew him. Was the first to find him the morning after.
'Willard' left the seminary to become a warrant officer pilot because it was 'important' to him to help to lend a hand. He died never having 'known' a woman. We all made fun of his accent. As a scout pilot, I was first to find him and crew the next morning after they died resupplying a firebase that was being overrun the night before. He was a man who stood tall, respected by all who knew him and died serving his fellow 1st Air Cavalry Troopers in their hour of need. The firebase withstood the attempt to overrun them and were flying the Stars and Stripes at first light. I miss him!

Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things. You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung, high in the sunlit silence, hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew, and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God.
