Dear John Robert Allison, It truly breaks my heart to see your family write to you when you never were able to meet them. Fighting in a war, let alone Vietnam is something I won’t ever understand. I appreciate your courage as a nineteen year old for the decision to protect our country. I would feel proud to be that courageous. As it turns out, you have the same birthday as me, and you are also around my same age. Picturing myself in the situation you were in, I know I wouldn’t have been strong enough to mentally get through it. I truly admire you.

John was killed, by NVA., AK47, weapons fire, during the assault, on the Thoung Tu, Tower/Gate, yards, from the Imperial Palace, during Operation, Hue City. Falk was, also KIA.. A number of men, were wounded. Brian Mayer, won the Silver Star, for evacuating John and the others, while under enemy fire. John and I were friends, for only a short time, but I think of him, often. John, Thanks for your sacrifice-You are not forgotten. You don't know me but you're my uncle. Well, my step-uncle. My mother married your brother Lee. I guess you know your mother and father have passed away? Your name is mentioned from time to time at family gatherings by your brothers and sister. About how crazy you rode your horse and about the car you built before you went to Vietnam. I have two rubbings of your name from The Wall. You probably don't know about that. It's a memorial dedicated to all the military persons that died in Vietnam. The real one is in Washington, D.C. There are others that sorta travel around and are smaller. I've been to the one in Washington, D.C. It's really quiet there. Semper Fidelis, John. Scott
