Richard Simmons 07-04-43 - 06-25-68
. . Contributed By Audrey Harrison-Morris On Sunday, January 03, 1999
Richard Simmons became a father two months prior to giving his life for this country, but he never even knew he was expecting. 5 years ago I was told that the family who raised me was indeed not my "real" family. According to my mother my father was stationed in Germany in'67 (where they lived together - her name Gabriele) when he received notice he was going to Vietnam. His tour of duty according to the wall was Oct. '68 But according to my mother I was conceived the day before he left which would have been late July early August. She was told later that he was killed. Recently I have been experiencing medical problems and am interested in getting a medical background on my father and decided to start a search. You can not begin to imagine my feelings or how ovrwhelmed I was to find this sight then to find his name and to see he really existed and just a little more info than the nothing that I knew. My family has no idea that I know about my Dad so being able to share this with all who read it really helps. (I will definitely be sending a portion of my next pay to help keep this going) Anyone knowing anything even it's just how to get a copy of Vets med records please contact me. His info: Richard Simmons from South Carolina 24 yrs. old at death served in the Army born July 4, 1943
