Men of 58th Transportation Batt.,Viet Nam, 1968
. . Contributed By Alvin E.(Jim) Hart On Friday, April 04, 2003
I was in Viet Nam 12/67 to 12/68 in the 58th Transportation Battalion. I drove a gun truck, mostly over Mang Yang Pass. We were engaged in battle on numerous occasions, at one point a helicopter had been shot down near us, resulting in the deaths of all aboard. Because I was driving a truck, VA is asking me to prove I was actually engaged in battle in order to support my PTSD claim. I would really like to hear from anyone who was in Viet Nam in 1968, especially those who were in 58th Transp Battalion, and especially if you remember a mess Sgt. named Rodrigues who was killed by ground fire during an attack by the enemy at the ice house. Thanks.

A single word whispers in my ear "death" 13 Dead . . 5 Americans the rest British 10 Lieutenants 5 poor mothers 13 Dead . . Your son is dead they will say A mother's child, a child's father, a father's child A wife's husband, a girlfriend's boyfriend, a country's son A sister's brother, a friend's friend, a teacher's student 13 Dead . . How many more He served his country with pride they say A mother goes crazy A child is dead Still they fight 13 Dead . . America will win but some will die How many more Lieutenants? How many more mothers? How many dead? 13 Dead . . How many forgotten soldiers will there be? A mother cries 13 Dead . . Your son is dead Your son was shot Your son was a hero Be proud of him they say A country at war An angry mother 13 Dead . . A mother screams A mother cries A mother loses her child The grave is dug, the flag is hung A tear is cried A rose is thrown 13 Dead . . A child left fatherless A wife widowed A grave stone written on A name, a body, a son, a lover, a hero The words echo in a mother's ear He's dead He's a hero He served his country well 13 Dead . . The news brings a death toll Many more More shot More killed More Lieutenants 13 Dead . . 13 Dead . .
