On this 4th of July 2003 . . Contributed By HM3/USN/RET DAVID C. HOOPER On Thursday, July 03, 2003 As I look in my past and remember what it was like in Vietnam and those that I served with, it makes me even prouder to know that I served with the BEST that there ever could have been. I served with the 1st Batt., 1st Marines, 1st Marine Division. I was a Hospitalcorpsman with "B" company in and around DaNang. Hill 41. November 1965 to April 1966. I sent many of my friends home the hard way and was also one of those that came home on a streacher. I will NEVER FORGET all that we went through and I will ALWAYS be Proud to have served. We should also NEVER FORGET the POW's that may still be there or from any other war, even Iraq. GOD BLESS AMERICA and all those that have and are serving at this time. Our hearts and prayers are with them.

My brother was in 101st airborne divison . . Contributed By wendy ortego On Thursday, July 03, 2003 My brother was 101st airborne divison and he recently passed away. He and I were really close and I miss him terribly. Please remember him this July 4,03. He passed away at 52 years of age. He had a lot of health problems. His name was Gregory Dean Hurst. There are times when he told some of the stories about what he went through in Vietnam. He recieved the Bronze Star, Air Medal etc. I am truly upset when some people still critize all of these Vietnam vets because they fought and died for this country. I was in the first grade when my brother went to Vietnam and I can remember how sad I was when he left to go. He climbed Hamburger Hill and saved many lives over there and when he came back his world was upside down he never was the same since then. I will never forget my brother as he was my hero and always will be. I don't care what people think. Sometimes I could sit in the floor and cry my eyes out now that he is gone. I'm so glad there is a place that I could tell my story because sometimes I don't have anyone to talk to about it. My Mother and sister were there when he passed on. May he rest in peace now. He fought so hard with his PTSD. He would call in the middle of the night just to talk about the nightmares he would have and I would tell him that it's okay that it was going to be alright. Alot of the time I would go to his apartment because he simply wanted to talk to somebody and I happen to be there for him and I would do anything I could to help him no matter what. He also was in Ashau Valley and he was also head of his regiment and I have to say that I was very, very proud of him and I was never ashamed of him. I also will remember all of the other Vietnam veterans that fought and died for this country. May their families and mine find the peace that they are looking for. This is dedicated to all of the veterans and their memories. And especially to my brother's memory: GREGORY D.HURST
The Men of Garry Owen, LT Neil Kroger . . Contributed By Neal Johnson On Friday, July 04, 2003 When I was a young soldier in Infantry training at Ft Polk ( summer 74) we asked our Drill, SFC Maldonaldo why we had to train so hard day in and day out without let up? His only reply was Ia Drang. He left it up to us to find out the meaning behind that statement, and I did. I have read every piece of information on the battle and never fail to tear up while reading Col Moore and Joe's book. I have the shaded name of a Neil A Kroger ( C company) from the wall and am so proud to have it even though I never knew him. I guess its the name of Neil that drew my attenion to this fine officer. I know we lost a great soldier in the Towers on 9-11, but it just proves to me again how great amd brave those men were who fought the battle of Ia Drang. May God watch over you all
