The Portable Wall
. . Contributed By Chery Aills On Thursday, November 04, 2004
Many years ago, The Wall visited Longview, TX. I was standing in line waiting to sign the registry. An older lady in front of me looked at the soldier who was greating visitors and told him he would have not lost both his legs if he had not been in Vietnam. She went on to say it was his fault. Me and my big mouth, I could not stand there and listen to that. I made sure she received my two cents worth. I told her how proud I was of him that he did not run like a coward. He went where he was told to go and did what he was told. That is a true soldier. She did not have any right to say anything to him. Especially since she did not serve her country. I admire each and every individual who served in Vietnam and would love to put my arms around each and every one of them just to let them know they are loved.
