Rest In Peace
I served in the Marines with Donald Burton in Alpha Company 1st Battalion 6th Marines 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune, N.C. Vieques, PR and Gitmo Bay, Cuba from Oct. 1960 to Dec. 1962. We both joined Alpha Company and were transferred out of Alpha Company at the same time. I was surprised to hear of Donald's Death. I also was deployed to Viet Nam in May 1965 and was lucky enough to have survived till I was transferred back to the USA in Oct. 1965. Rest In Peace, Donald

I had been his Lt.
Semper Fidelis
I had been Sgt. Burton's platoon commander at Camp Pendleton, in Okinawa and for a short time in Vietnam. but I was the Bn. IntelO during Operation Orange. He was a fine Marine and I have fond memories of him. He was always squared away and he kept his Marines the same way. I was not with him the day he gave his life for Corps and country. I shall have to live with that. Semper Fidelis, Curt Bruce LtCol of Marines (Retired)

Served with him
Sgt., Burton was, my squad leader. I was his first, fire team leader. I served with him, from the time he joined, Kilo, Co., 3rd, Bn., 5th, Marines, at Camp Pendelton, until that fateful day, in that sun baked rice paddy, when he was killed. Sgt., Burton was, a fine Marine and a good man. I'am so sorry, that he wasn't able to be the outstanding father, that I know he would have been, to his son. For the last 42, years, there hasn't been a week go by, that I haven't, thought of him. SEMPER FI!

I was 5 when the war started, yet I entered the war before it was over. I never saw Vietnam, I survived three wars and still I am thankful for those in Vietnam who stood their ground. As a young man I watched my neighbors go to war and come back a different person. I understood much later why. Today,I thought I would look for the heroes from Coatesville and found 11 casualties. I didn't recognize any names, however, I spoke to my father who knew two. He knew Donald Burton from high school and knew of the Folks family. He thanked me for mentioning their names and spoke of Donald's family. I want to thank Donald, the others from Coatesville and their families. They are my Heroes.

You will always be, my first Love.
To all, of the Marines and especially the ones, who were there for his last breath, Thank You. The World lost a Wonderful Man. Milton Pittman, thank you, for the story of his last moment. That information, was very valuable to our son, who is now 43, years, old and his son, now 12, years, old and a daughter, that's 22. When I have to tell the story, of Sgt., Donald Burton, not being able to see his son in person, it always makes, my heart heavy. Let it be known, that Donald was an Awsome, Man and he, is dearly missed. God Bless all, of you. Ruby, his wife.
