Donna Clune-Chironno dclune@optonline.net wore mia bracelet in 60's + 70's, Lindenhurst, ny 11757 usa Always remembered through a cherished bracelet As a young girl growing up in the 60's and 70's I wore a POW_MIA bracelet for many years with the inscription "Capt.Roy Schmidt 6-9-68".I still cherish it and think often of a family who lost their son &/or brother.I am not sure if this is the same man to whom this page belongs, but I think often of him (and everyone's child & loved ones who are senselessly taken from us) and pray for PEACE for all. With love from a fellow Long Islander and American,Donna. Chelsea Rider cmrider@svsu.edu Midland, MI 48640 United States My father is a Vietnam Vet and for as long as I can remember, has worn a POW/MIA braclet.I finally got my own this year, and it is Capt. Schmidt's. Every day I am reminded of the courage of Schmidt, my father, and all the other veterans who served during this war. In the springtime, I hope to follow in both my father's and Capt. Schmidt's footsteps and enlist in the USMC. Thank you Capt. Schmidt for your selfless service to this country. I will always honor your memory. Tuesday, October 19, 2004 |

Peter Erenfeld fsh4evrr@attbi.com Friend and squadron mate Roy was an excellent pilot. He was shot down late in the evening and was last seen hanging in his parachute in tall trees. A rescue was attempted and communication was established with Roy. Darkness forced an end to that days attempt to rescue Roy. The choppers were back at daylite but he was nowhere to be found. He is missed but will live in our hearts until the day we join him. Semper Fi Roy Tuesday, October 01, 2002 |

Stephen Sikorski srsenn@cs.com Rescue attempt, June 9, 1968 999 North Pacific Street Oceanside, California 92054 USA Haunting memory of a very brave man, Roy Schmidt I was a crew member in one of the Marine Helicopter Gunships from HML 367. We were providing cover for Jolly Green 23 which was lost in one of several attempts at picking up Lt. Schmidt. All these years I have thought about that day just East of Laos, and the bravery of Lt. Schmidt. I often thought about him when things were difficult for me. Roy Schmidt has been a part of who Iam, as well as the lost crew of Jolly Green 23. When things were difficult all I had to do was to remember that day and the bravery I saw. It was a sad day when we left the zone and aborted the SAR mission. God bless Roy Schmidt and the crew of Jolly Green 23. Steve Sikorski, USMC in Country 67/68 Thursday, February 23, 2006 |
