Oh, I have slipped the surly bonds of earth and danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings, Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth of sun-split clouds and done a hundred things. You have not dreamed of wheeled and soared and swung, high in the sunlit silence, hov'ring there, I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air. Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the windswept heights with easy grace, where never lark, or even eagle flew, and, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of God. A Good Friend," Wish i knew, where you were." Jerry, I remember well, our high school, days and the good times, we spent. I came back, after two tours, in the Nam and got married and have, two kids and 5, grand kids. Did'nt get, to see your mom, after i got back and lost touch, with your sister. Sure is hard to think, it has been over 30, years, now. As we said, in the Corps," Semper Fi, Good Friend and we, will meet again, someday." Rest in Peace! Bruce.

I wore his bracelet in the 1970's
Abingdon, MD USA
For the HERO I never met
In 1971-1975 I was in the Phillippenes while my Father was stationed there at Clark Air Force Base. I was issued a bracelet at Lily Hill Middle School and for 20 years or more I wore his bracelet. I have looked for his name in the Genealogy Records that the Mormon Church has and have been so lucky to find out bits and pieces of his life. When the list of names of the returning POW's were listed in the Base Newspaper, I frantically looked for Jerry's name. I wanted to be there on the TARMAC when he came off the plane. Unfortunately that was not to be. But I witnessed my classmate (whose name was on her bracelet) that came off the plane and into his arms. If anyone has a picture of him (Jerry). please send it to me. I will hold that sacred because of the ultimate sacrifice that Jerry did for our country. Thank you to his family for the support for this fine man.

I too wore, the "SSGT., Jerry Bridges, 10-20-68" braclet. However some, of the bio., information, leading, to these personal comments, are incorrect. Pertaining, to the 10-20-68 date. 10-20-68 is the date, that Jerry Bridges' went MIA.. I was wearing his braclet, well before 1974, as a seventh, or eighth grader, in 1969, or so and wore it several years, after high school. I remember sending in a small amount, of money and getting it, in the mail, from VIVA. (Voices In Vital America) They sent a news letter, with names and information, on POW/MIA's.. Thank you, to all those, that serve, in order for us, to remain free. D. Weaklend

he was the hero, I wore, on my bracel

I received pictures, long time ago, of Jerry Bridges, from his cousin. Thru divorces and movin, the computer, I had, was destroyed right along, with the pictures. I'am the same beckie schuster, whose name appears, in the memorial for jerry. To update, the story. I was at Arlington, National Cemetery, for a visit. Later, that year moved, to Texas. Here, is where, i found out, that Jerry had been found and that his body was, brought back home, given the hero's memorial, at Arlington and then buried, in his town in Tennessee. The very odd, thing is, that I was at Arlington, just the day, after the Memorial. And when, I had gone thru Tennessee, for my own, personal, genealogy work, come, to find out, I was nearly, about 50, miles away, from his resting place. I have been and still affected, by him. I hope, that he is one, of the angels, that greets me, in heaven, when I get there. If you are, that cousin Mike, that sent me, those original pictures, please, please send them, to me again. And to the high school, students, that sent letters to Jerry, for their high school assignment. Thank you, I know, that he has, heard your words. I hope, that you truly understand, what his and so many thousands, have sacrificed, for you and for our country.
