Bob was, an extraordinary person, a brilliant scholar at OCS., school, Ft Sill, OK., a good athlete, a warm heart and a genuinely unpretentious man, who will always be warmly remembered.

Bob and I met the first night, of OCS., when assigned, the same bunk. When we had free time, we would walk to mainside to do laundry, have a hamburger, watch a movie at the PX and talk. Did share much about our backgrounds, We never saw each other again, I just found out his name, is on the wall. I'll always remember, what a decent thoughtful man and a very fine Officer.

Lt., Robert Scott Byrnes, 1968-2008.
Bob, during our lifetimes, we traveled the same paths, we were raised in the same neighborhood in carmichael, ca., went to same grade, o l a /la sierra, high school, even played on the same arcade baseball team, then ended up in Chu Lai, Vietnam together, as soldiers. In 1967-1968, you were assigned to the 196th, Light Inf., Bde. and I was with the 198th, Inf., Bde.. I came home safely, but sadly, you my dear friend made the ultimate sacrifice, for your country. All your family and friends miss your smile, wit, your optimistic outlook, on life and other super character attributes, you possessed. Rest peacefully, my dear friend and it goes without saying, you will never be forgotten.

I Remember Bob from Ft. Sill
I was stationed with Lt Byrnes a short while at Ft. Sill. He was a professional in every way and I could tell he loved the military. When I got to Vietnam I learned of his untimely death shortly after I had been in country. God Bless his family he left behind. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten
