Still remembering Jim after 47 years...
Jim & I grew up in the same neighborhood, sharing the same school bus, classrooms, teachers, friends, rivals & teams for 10yrs. I still remember a boy who was smart & funny but also kind, fair & honest, who kept his word & always did what he thought was right even if it wasn't cool. We didn't correspond after high school, but I knew Jim had joined the Marines & was sent to Viet Nam, so I kept him in my thoughts & prayers. I still remember the day, on a visit home from college, I ran over to practice on the organ at the local funeral home & was shocked numb to see a large portrait of Jim with the notice of his death in combat. He was 19... he made a difference.

I Remember Jim
Jim, was a year behind me in Grade School, Junior High and at San Ramon High School. I remember him as always smiling and very active in school sports and the community. I found out about his passing after I came back from Nam in 69 and was very saddened. I'm sure the Marines in his outfit appreciated his efforts as being a Navy Corpsman is the toughest job imaginable and I'm sure he was one of the best. I post this Memorial Day weekend 2015 and the older I get the more I mourn the loss of someone like Jim!

PS - I found comments on Cardinale with a further search
When I posted a comment yesterday, I had not scrolled down the electronic page, where I found others who left words for James Anthony Cardinale,USN - and upon reading the comments, found that he graduated Danville's San Ramon High School and sang in the choir. There were messages to the memory of the young man who died before he turned twenty, and I read the posting by a Pleasanton schoolmate. As Memorial Day is upon us, I became curious about the Wall's only Danville man, who died in Viet Nam in '68, a stranger to me, whose death at 19, set my heart in search of words written by those who may have known him. My granddaughter is a student at the same high school where James Cardinale graduated, SRHS, and she is only four years younger than Danville's hero who died in 1968 so far from home. God rest your soul and thank you for your service and to all those serving our great country. God Bless our troops and God Bless America. Anita Venezia, Danville, California

Not Yet Twenty
A friend sent a link to the VirtualWall of Viet Nam Vets, and I curiously looked for someone from my hometown of Danville, California. Only one Danville person appeared on The Wall, and there were no posts and no comments. James Anthony Cardinale USN from Danville, gave his life on a distant shore for his country - the USA. He was only 19 when he died in 1968 and, had he lived, would be a 62-year-old husband, father and maybe a grandfather today - but he did not make it and maybe, just maybe there is someone out there who really cares. I never knew him or his family - but for what it is - I had to comment today - because no one else has....God bless our troops and keep them safe...Anita Venezia, a Danville grandmother.
