The PHS., Alumni page, contains a section, "Fallen Heroes," in which, we honor the casualties, of World War 2, Korea and Viet Nam. The pages are dedicated, to those gallant, young men, who made the ultimate sacrifice, so that others, could live on, in freedom. They must never, be forgotten. We seek any information, about any, of these departed, friends - especially pictures, or reminisces, of their time in service, or growing up, in Peekskill, Thank you. Like a big brother to me
I used to be Mike's neighbor on Brandt Ave. in Peekskill in the late 50's/early 60's. I was 3 years younger than Mike and he treated my like a kid brother. Taught me how to throw a baseball, catch and hit. My fondest memory was he and I walking home from the Assumption Church on Sundays, singing "Travelin' Man". I was terribly upset when I read of his sacrifice in the Evening Star. Seeing the photo someone posted of him really brought me back to that time. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.

“You are Remembered”
Peace and condolence, to the family and friends. “He which hath no stomach, to this fight, let him depart. But we in it, shall be remembered. We few, we happy few, we band of brothers!! For he today, that sheds his blood with me, shall always be my brother.” Rest in peace brave soldier, you have not been forgotten. (W.Shakespeare) May God Bless you, for your Sacrifice!!!

Just Remembering Mike
I knew Mike, went to grade school with him. That was the Assumption School in Peekskill. I knew the family too. They lived on Union Avenue, up near DePew Park. Mike was always laughing and having a good time, fun to be around and fun to know. I was proud to learn that he had joined the Marines, he became one of us, one of the Few, one of the best. My sister had visited The Wall in D.C. taking a picture randomly. Coincidently, it happened to be the section with Mike's name on it. Miss You Mike, OOH-RAH!

I helped to build the Vietnam Veteran Memorial in Somers NY. Mike's mother and father were the first to call when we were interviewed on a local radio show announcing the the project. She went on from a quiet motherly, shy type to quite an outspoken woman talking to groups about the need to remember the vets. Two years after I met her, the memorial was built. About a month before the dedications she became ill and couldn't attend. A few months after that she died of cancer. She never let on she was sick and never lost focus on the memorial. She was an incredible woman. Mike would have been proud. I made a promise I would remember Mike's name always and always visit the memorial on her behalf. Mike J. Amato is a friend I never knew.
