September 26, 1945: OSS Lieutenant Colonel A. Peter Dewey was killed in action by the Communist Vietminh near Hanoi, becoming first American casualty in Vietnam. However, Air Force Tech Sgt. Richard B. Fitzgibbon, Jr., murdered in Vietnam by a fellow airman on June 8, 1956, has been formally recognized by the Pentagon as the first American officially to die in the Vietnam War.

This is to all the Vietnam Veterans.
. . Contributed By Doll On Wednesday, November 21, 2001
I have so much respect for all of you. And so much remorse for the generations before me being so cruel. I have a special person, in my life, who is a Vietnam veteran. He has told me some of the things that he experienced while he served his tour of duty. Personally, I have a rough time comprehending how a person can go through so much without completely breaking down. Especially, during this particular war. This is only because of the such bad rap the people who served in Vietnam recieved from the American nation. A war is a war, no matter which one it is. People fight and people die. Everyone deserves the same respect. The fallen soldiers deserve respect. He deserves respect. I'm extremely proud of this person that I speak of. He's a true friend with such a big heart. He doesn't gloat and brag about what he has accomplished in his life. The true heros never do. These are the people who need the recognition that they deserve. I truly hope, one day, everyone can see that all the soldiers did and do what they had to for our country. I pray that everyone someday will respect the ones who deserve it the most. Thank You all for everything you did.Your Cause Was Just!

. . Contributed By Mandi Shaw On Wednesday, December 05, 2001
Hello. I am writing in the off-chance that someone will be able to help me. I am trying to locate anyone who may have served in Vietnam with my dad, Stephen J. Shaw, III. He was in the Army, SP5. My dad could never really express his feelings about what he, and the rest of you brave heroes, experienced in the war. My dad passed away in March and I am left feeling empty not understanding such an important time in his life. I would love to be able to speak with anyone who may have even known my father-it would be a great honor for me. Thank you for any help you may be able to provide. Mandi Shaw

A MEMORIAL TO A VIETNAM VETERAN
. . Contributed By John Armstrong On Wednesday, December 12, 2001
VIETNAM VETERAN LEFT LEGACY IN VERSE Wednesday, December 12, 2001 Roy L. Moody, a longtime fixture in downtown Worcester, MA. Died at U-Mass Memorial Medical Center -- University Campus. Mr. Moody was well-known to many downtown workers and visitors. An admitted alcoholic, Mr. Moody, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War who was stationed in Da Nang in the early 1970s, could often be spotted handing out or selling copies of poems he wrote about his combat experience. One of his poems , "Living and Dying," described how the war had deeply affected him: Take a man and put him alone, Put him 12,000 miles away from home. Empty his heart of all his blood, Make him sweat and live in the mud. . He had the guts to fight and die, He paid the price but what did he buy. Not a damn thing. ANOTHER VIETNAM VETERAN WHO'S NAME WILL NEVER BE ETCHED IN STONE, ANOTHER BROTHER VIETNAM VETERAN, ANOTHER CASUALTY OF WAR! I know you are in Heaven with many friends and no longer alone my Brother for you have served your time in HELL!

He was my replacement and died before I left country. I never really got to know him but "But for the Grace of God" it could have been me. We sent him to pick up a prisoner and the Helicopter he was riding is crashed into a mountain. He was only in country a few days.
