I am presently looking for written accounts, either written at the time of the Vietnam War or written in retrospective format. I am considering publishing a book of people's accounts of Vietnam and would like to try and collect as many different stories as possible. The more personal the story, the better. I'm looking to trace my father's military career in Vietnam. He was with the 9th Infantry Division when passed away due to hostile conflict in 1968 at Binh Long, South Vietnam.since we don't have any of his personal effects or the letters he wrote my mother from that time, I'm posting here just on the off chance that someone may have known him and had any information about him during his military career. I never knew him as he passed away 3 months before I was born so this is just a way for me to get to know him. Memorial Day 2002 "Anyone who has looked into the glazed eyes of a fellow MARINE dying in their arms on the Battlefield will think hard before starting a War" This Memorial Day please let those who think that this is a holiday because we have started to call it a holiday. IT'S NOT! Ask them to take a few moments for those who gave all! That what this day is for.The above quote was by O.T. Bismark with a few words changed by me. I'm aware that others may look at you weird, Who cares, our now gone fellow MARINES deserve it. Every year I find myself having to refresh their memories. I'm only asking all of you to do this for them & me. Perhaps, just perhaps it will sink into a few and spread to others. It seems that I get real upset with how we as a country just make everything a three-day weekend. My feeling is May 30th is Memorial Day, not whatever Monday is nearest that day. My father was killed in Vietnam on 8/23/68.He was in the army.He was in the special forces.I would like to find anyone who might have known him.He served from1950 until his death.Thankyou,Sheila

Our Heavenly Father, today we honor those who gave the most important thing we all have OUR LIVES, for our Freedom! There are many other hardships they had to endure, as other combat Veterans know only too well. We all take things for granted like a warm bed to sleep in. They slept in muddy trenches of WW 1,the bloody beaches of WW 2,the cold hard ground of Korea and the rice paddies of Vietnam. I could go on and on, but I hope you've gotten the picture. I ask all to remember them the next time you think that you have rough, think of those great Americans called AIRMEN,MARINES, SAILORS & SOLDIERS. Please never forget what those we honor today gave up and what we enjoy today. We all have Freedom and life. So we ask you our Father to look over them, as they are the best of what Americans were and should be! As we go our separate ways I ask one small favor. Keep them in the back of your mind and please save a little space to always remember the price they paid for us. Lets take good care of what they died for! May GOD bless them and those here for taking the time to remember and honor them.
