Steven  Hakanson schak4@yahoo.com Overland Mo A fine commanding general who was well respected I went to boot camp in San Diego in 1966 and was under the general command of General Hochmuth.
Although we didn't exactly eat in the same mess hall, our platoon stood inspection by the general. I got the impression that it would be a privilege to serve under this man.
Thank you for your service sir, and thank you for your sacrifice. Mar 17, 2009 |

William  Crawford wlcrawfordjr@yahoo.com He was my Boot Camp Commander Battle Creek MI I Remember Being a scumbag no account private at the time, I never had any reason to meet the General. My concerns were with the D.I.'s who lurked all around us boots at the time. However, I'm suspecting he was a very honorable man. Interesting how small the world really is. Joseph Olszewski JOlszewski@shaklee.com Junior Officer 1445 Arbor Lane Alamo,Ca 94507 USA My Battalion Commander I was a Marine Corps officer and served in Vietnam as the Platoon Commander for the Third Platoon, Golf Company, 2nd Battalion, 26th Marine Regiment from September, 1967 until late February, 1968. While we were at Phu Bia my platoon was ambushed one day by a small VC unit which resulted in a fire fight. It just so happened that General Hochmuth was in the Communication Bunker at the precise time and he over-heard all the communications between me and my company commnander. It was a brief fire fight which was over in about ten minutes. Several days later I received congratualations from General Hochmuth through my company commander. Apparently, he was impressed with the timely information I had provided, the coordination I was able to perform and the fact that I did not incur any casualties. After I left the Marine Corps and began working as a civilian, I worked as an Accontant for Crown Zellerbach in San Francisco. One of the female employees knew the General's wife but I cannot remember her name. I would appreciate hearing from any of the family or friends of General Hochmuth or any of the members of the 26th Marine Regiment. Thursday, December 23, 1999 |
