Paul   Weathersbee Carmichael CA 95608 Remembering A Hero
Bob I remember his smile and intelligence. He had a great sense of humor and also a serious side. He seemed to understand life in a deeper sense than most of us in high school. I recently visited the memorial in DC. I am honored to have known Bob and think of him often. Bob lives on in all who know May 12, 2008 |

1 LT. Byrnes (BOB) was a man that did his job with honor and courage. He always treated his men the way he wanted to be treated. I would like for his family to know that he was a good, kind man and that he tried to make life easier each day for the men that served with him.

You told me that when you were born, your grand father, an old Navy man himself, said you were to be the "Skipper" of the family.I can see you now, as we were, so long ago.I hope there is a Heaven, if only for you.

William  Taylor graduated OCS with Bob Byrnes A true leader, genleman, and good person
Bob was a natural leader, happy and handsome. He had a most beautiful aura about him, one of crystal clear goodness and well being. There was just something about his demeanor and presence that almost shouted "what a good man". We were in the same Officer Candidate School class and he put together a marching song to the tune of "poison ivy" that still rings in my ears. We were in country at the same time and I was with the 101st Bob was with 198th when I heard about his death not too long afterwards. About 14 years ago I wrote a small book of my experiences and gave Bob honorable mention. I am saddened and sorry he did not make it home. Words cannot express the sorrow of the loss of such a fine man and Officer. To his family and friends I can only offer a belated but sincere expression that I was proud to have known him.
